Stay out of your tenants' lives, and you won't have to feel upset about people living their lives differently than you think they should. I'm sure they would appreciate you keeping your nose out of their private life too.

Sounds like the dead beat own nothing and be happy renters need to get out, get a job and buy a house.

Funny thing is a house mortgage is cheaper than a lot of rentals.

They are either too dumb to figure it out or can never get a mortgage because they have a shit job, no net worth and shit credit.

I agree, its totally hopeless and I would never rent anything again unless I didnt plan to stay long.

Go to any small town, and there will be people who have never left, have never even gone over to the next town. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

Life is a very small, empty place for most people. If you are more fortunate, be grateful.

Many of those people you are criticizing were broken long ago. I am broken.

No one cares. The world is an empty shallow place, as proven by your post.

The problem is all of those slumlords in a large city or town that operates on bare minimum upkeep and provides these lower or zero income renters a questionable place to stay. City officials with lack of enforcement of housing standards are another big part of the problems facing most communities.

You think your smart but you are not.

The second those are renovated the tenants will no longer ba able to afford the increase in rent.

FACT I see it all the time, when their lease is up tell them it’s getting fixed up and the rent is going up 30% minimum on a remodel.

BOOM they are on the streets and freaking because they can’t find a place to live for what they were paying.
AC
Evidently you’ve never dealt with a big time slumlord who lets their properties become dilapidated continuously over time only to later apply with the city for an urban development project that is in an area where slumlord’s properties has become deemed blighted for a new multifamily development by the city’s planning and development dept. But 20% of new developers property shall include affordable housing based on medium income of city.

And during all that time I have had one person go on a vacation and it was locally. I have had hundreds of tenants over the years and not one of them has actually gone on an actual vacation. When they take time off it means they are staying home.

Another thing Id like to add is not one of my tenants have had a life of any kind. Most of them go to work every day and come home like Groundhog Day....for YEARS! Then one day I see that they are no longer working at all and just hanging out at home 24/7 whether its old or young, male or female.

Its hard to describe how deadbeat people really are, if they have money they buy the latest BS on TV and have no idea what its like out in the world and dont care to know.

The OP is correct that MANY renters have little drive, but much of that is based upon his being more rural.

Here in the city LOTS of renters have a lot of drive, the issue is that their job situation often isn't stable enough to justify buying a house since they may be moving to a different city in 2 or 3 years, and if you don't hold onto a house for an extended period of time you lose money, a LOT of money, every time you have to move. In addition the down payment requirement today for a house in a decent suburb is HIGH. You better be prepared to have AT LEAST $80,000 in the bank for your 20% down for a SMALL house or you are out of luck. (average price for a typical 4/2.5/2 house here in a good school district is now about $600,000)

If you are a younger technical type of worker there is NO geographical stablity anymore as to where you will be working over the years. It makes if hard to put down roots.

I know multiple young engineers and professional people in that situation, renters because they don't know where they will be next year or the year after. (one person I know last year finally bought a house and VOILA, his employer decided this summer to ship him to Austin Texas with a 6 week notice - to sell his newly bought house he would need to bring $50,000 to the closing to pay off his now upside down house and get out from under it - that includes losing ALL of his original 20% down payment - another $100,000+ that he had saved up)

Until a young person has geographical stability ... AND can raise the money for a downpayment it is tough for them to buy a house these days.

Would you prefer the government be the source of housing?

What you landlordtards fail to take into consideration. There is a consistent portion of the population that either cannot, or does not want to, own a home. So you can either have your "slumlord" or the government. Which do you think is worse?

never had a landlord that wasnt a lazy scumbag profiting off of someone elses work..

yea they are 'nice' guys, but wow, its basically selling water by the river, living expenses are INSANE, it costs a fortune to just exist, and asshats that capitalize on the beast system by owning up property and dishing it out for profit are just greedy people.

no one needs more than one home, if you are a landlord hoarder of property and living off of others, sell them for good prices to people, offer rent to own situations and stop being a piece of shit. you wont be bringing your money with you to hell.

Tenants sign a lease that I make sure they have read everything and if they dont I wont rent to them. I ask them a few key questions before they sign and if they dont answer them correctly I tell them I have other people interested.
With all of these owner haters out there, you sign a contract with the renter and the owner signs a contract with the renter. If either one breaks the contract it is a breach of trust. So there is absolutely nothing shady about landlords that abide by their contracts. I have abided by mine for 22 years now and have only had a few renters who have not. The problem has nothing to do with landlord/renter relationships with me it has to do with a mentality of people as a whole that I would probably be totally unaware of if not a landlord.

That certainly describes my life as a tenant, though I don't care that much for new things or the latest gadgets. I like fixing stuff, keeping things going and re-purposing.

I don't really like going on holiday, it's boring. Travel is tiresome, aeroplane travel a nightmare. In fact most people are a nightmare.

I do travel in my mind, and on the Internet. I love to dream. I don't drink (alcohol) it depresses me nor do I take drugs. I have not has as much as an aspirin for about 35 years.

I have little ambition or drive. I'm just smart enough to know I'm not very smart. I do seem to have the ability to see the future, though always far too advanced, which make it pointless.

I would never want to be a land-lord or belong to the runtier class, fuck living off someone's back.
