NASA crashes spacecraft into asteroid. ZERO DEBRIS, ZERO DUST, ZILCH, NADA. Verdict: FAKE! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 35883326 United States 09/26/2022 09:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I get why people are calling this CGI. Quoting: Shilliam the Third But you dummies who think this “landed” or “zero impact” are insufferable and don’t put one ounce into research before crying wolf. Consider the challenges of transmitting these images back to earth in this setting, and how the feed is then broadcasted out. Lots of manipulation. Were you expecting a 3rd Party camera that will see the collision in 24hz? Settle your expectations. Instead consider analyzing the size of the asteroid and objects as the craft neared, as they should become exponentially larger on the camera every “frame”, separate of thruster corrections. |

There was no impact whatsoever. They just keyframed a 3D camera approaching a low-poly "asteroid" with a 2k texture and some displacement map. But they didn't even bother adding some shake effect to the camera to at least sell the illusion of "impact". They didn't bother because they think we're monkeys that get amused by any tricks with cards and cigar buts. What are you talking about!? Shake feature? Do you realize how fast this collision would be, and the frame-rate the craft is broadcasting? It’s sending an image every couple seconds… This wasn’t designed to take A neat HD a video of a collision. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78520957 United States 09/26/2022 09:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My question watching the video was, this asteroid was traveling at a high velocity but did not rotate ate all. As it was traveling I saw no trail, and rhe closer it got there was zero spin on the asteroid it seemed really fake. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77376498 United States 09/26/2022 10:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So an asteroid traveling thousands of miles an hour and spherical in shape can be covered in rocks and boulders? Makes sense Quoting: Doc_Holliday It's called "displacement map". You can do pretty much anything with Cinema 4D these days. I guess you guys think all that wind in space would blow the boulders off? |

BUT I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of anyone from NASA's mouth, given their track record in recent decades, POSSIBLY all the way back to the Apollo series. |

Incredible. There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT! -Men in Black |

Just because you earned you 3.50, it doesn't mean you're less of a shitbag! *After Effects* |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77471121 Netherlands 09/27/2022 08:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The thing is that there's no point spending long hours making elaborate and realistic CGI videos only to render a couple dozen black and white frames in the lowest resolution possible. Most people don't care. Most people are getting stupider by the minute. The new generation of people only cares about Tik Tok, Instagram, "internet challenges" and selfies. The old generation of people only cares about daily basis survival. Nobody gives a shit whether NASA actors are enacting yet another fake mission. But the fuckers surely have a blast getting overpaid to play pranks on the half-monkey race. |
