My Book Sold 10 Copies

It's pretty cool. I was told that Amazon it helps if people write reviews of your book. So I was going to give some copies to friends and ask them to review the book.

But this was just in the first two weeks with no help.

I checked. Amazon does not even have the book cover yet (Ingram Spark says they can take up to 6 weeks before their process takes the image metadata and uses it.

It's nice to realize a dream. Well done.

For me it was just a bucket-list thing.

I got a library of Congress number which is free, but you promise to send them a copy.

So I will be able to say that I have a book in the Library of Congress.

Also, I have no idea so just brainstorming, but maybe try and find a few niche communities as closely related to your work as possible and put a little marketing money towards advertising your book. You might surprise yourself with a significant increase in sales.

Most people use Amazon's Publishing, but I couldn't. When I started this project, I had looked and I had seen that 10x8 landscape was a common book size for a child's book.

My poetry is not kid's poetry, but the style of book seemed similar to a kid's book. So I did all the drawings to fit landscape. Then I looked and Amazon does not support any landscape printing.

So..the next two biggest Print on Demand publishers are IngramSpark and Barnes and Nobles.

IngramSpark supported 11x8.5 so I just resized all my graphics to fit that.

You have to buy an ISBN number or the book will not be carried in books stores, or libraries. They are not cheap.
With the ISBN, the Library of Congress will give you LCCN number. So I got that, and both of those numbers are on the book itself on the copywrite page.

SCRIBUS is a freeware book creation software, I used that. It exports out to a .PDF which is what IngramSpark wants.

IngramSpark 'distributes' your book and puts it out on Amazon too. Their list of new books goes to retailers globally.

IngramSpark has a lot of good info on their website about al the steps, etc. if you are thinking of trying to publish something.

I think you are right, after actually selling 10. IngramSparks has links to marketing stuff that you can pay for.

My plan was give some to friends, and get them to go out and write a few reviews of the book. Once that is in place, I might try to figure out a way to market it.

One thing I learned: if you take pics with your phone cam...they are RGB and they have to be run through software called CYAN to convert them into CYMK color schemes.

What print on demand company did you use? I want to publish a landscape style book also. Which one do you recommend? That is a good sign.
