Updated: Torn Rotator Cuff Question: Had the Surgery on Monday. Good stuff at Bottom of page 4. | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73347938 United Kingdom 12/12/2022 09:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm slated for surgery on the 9th to repair a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder that I injured back in April. Quoting: Obi Won The pain was excruciating for months. Even my PCP's cortisone / lidocaine shots only provided temporary relief (3-4 days). At the consultation my surgeon said most people that get it done would absolutely not go through with it again and full recovery could take at least 6 months! Although currently the pain is just dull but still present, should I still go through the surgery or just tough it out? Can they repair themselves on their own? Sorry for sounding so ignorant, but I'm torn...Literally. Thanks in advance for any input! Now I am speaking just for me here, but I hurt my right Rotator Cuff lifting weights (decline bench-press 315lbs) many moons ago. At the time I spent 3-4 days a week in the gym and yea i hurt it good. I did not go to the Doc. and this injury took a full year to heal. For a year I could hardly do anything at all with that arm, but in time it did indeed heal. Well I started doing workouts again including that are and finally worked back up to that same weight. Then low and behold snap! the other side felt like it tore with the same vengeance as the the other did, again I did not go to the Doc. instead letting it heal on it's own and it took 6mos this time. I never lifted that much weight again, but I am fine and have full motion on both sides with no pain. I am now 66yo and have other issues, but that is not one of them. Again I am only speaking for myself. You do what you feel is the right thing to do. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74139809 United States 12/12/2022 10:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went thru the same thing. Unable to sleep for 6 months. No way to get comfortable. Found DMSO. It would stop the pain but in a few hours it would start hurting again but at least I could get some sleep. Then I found the cure: Boron. It literally cured my shoulder in a matter of weeks. That was over 2 years ago. Google boron and joint health. This stuff really works. |

User ID: 84812054 United States 12/12/2022 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have had 3 surgeries on my left shoulder. First was a bicep tendinosis, where they reattached my bicep tendon. Then I had a tear the size of a dime repaired. And then 15 years later, I had arthritis cleaned out. The first one I had my range of motion issues afterwards. No issues with the second and the third was great and actually I got the torquing back. I do recommend you hunt down an "ice machine" or make one. It is a ice chest, you fill it with ice, and a tube runs through the icewater, closed system, and the tube runs through a velcoed cloth, keeping ice water cooling it. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] I got one due to being worker's comp on the second surgery. I got one for the third one from Facebook Marketplace. Someone gave it to me free. I will return the favor. It you live in the Coachella Valley, let me know. As above, so below. |

Gotten a little outta the swing of things but could deadlift 365 with no shoulder pain and it had been a downward lifting much like a deadlift that had caused the tear in the first place. Hardly ever have pain in my day to day life now unless I do something really stupid. So ya good call on the surgery OP, do all the PT they recommend religiously, then start working on the supporting muscles and youll be right as rain Last Edited by SwampCreature on 12/13/2022 12:29 AM SwampCreature |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 78490578 United States 12/13/2022 01:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had surgery for a torn rotator cuff maybe 10 years ago. For sure helped. still had pretty good pain once in awhile after though. Honestly what has helped me since is (counter intuitively) weight lifting. The pain was inexplicable. I sincerely thank you for the advice and encouragement! |

Prayers for healing and complete recovery! Had the same surgery 2 years ago and lol that black sling! The key to full recovery is the rehabilitation. I worked diligently to do the rehab every day, several times a day, and was a complete success! No lingering pain and full use of arm/shoulder. I know you have to wear sling for about 6 weeks, but make sure your dr tells you a few exercises you can do until you start rehab at the end of the 6 weeks. It will help with the stiffness and better prepare you for the more intense rehab weeks later. |

It has a vinyl ball attached to the palm section so I can work my grip and wrist while keeping everything else immobile. I'll keep up with Doc's advice, but I lost a bit of confidence in him as he prescribed one med that can kill me (we'll telephonically consult later today), and another that has the efficacy of children's chewable aspirin AND I'm allergic to it... |
