You are both correct and incorrect. You can't just start taking supplements once you have symptoms. Well, you can. But then you are not going to get maximum benefits from them. If anything, you may get a very negligible benefit.

Things like Vitamin D, Zinc, Magnesium, and an ionophore such as Quercetin or Quinine (all of these should be taken by everyone to both minimize the chance of virus contraction as well as minimize the severity of an infection) take around three weeks to build up to sufficient levels in the human body.

Everyone should be taking all of these on a daily basis starting ASAP. Don't wait until you are sick.

Flu is easier to stop in it’s tracks with the spread because of the low incubation period so people are walking around with a flu virus for less time before they realize they have the flu and then stay home to recover.

The original alpha strain of Covid had a long incubation period which was the main issue and the reason for the lockdowns. Because people were walking around with a 7 day incubation period spreading the virus without knowing it and then felt sick and stayed home after about 7 days from first getting the virus.
