New doom movie coming in November 'The Road' | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 355626 New Zealand 08/06/2008 09:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Based on the book by Cormac McCarthy, in my opinion one of America's greatest writers, both stylistically and thematically. Blood Meridian took a scalpel to the dark side of the Amerivcan Dream and No Country For Old Men nailed the sea change in values that has taken place in mere decades. The Road looks to be the future. And it's grim. |

But director John Hillcoat and filmmakers of The Road believe they discovered it in Pittsburgh lol @ the doomiest city = pittsburgh Photos: [link to www.usatoday.com] |

I was hoping for a lot of mad max insanity and brutal surival fights but those were few and far between and usually very brief. Hell they only had a hand gun with 1 or 2 bullets. Yawnnnnn. Hopefully the movie can spice the books action up a bit because I love a good post apocalyptic story. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 480325 Germany 08/07/2008 07:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I found the novel wich this movie is based on a dreadfully boring read. I should have suspected that being an Oprah book club recommendation. haha Quoting: Anonymous Coward 422773It's basically just about a father and his son and their relationship as they make there way south to escape the coming winter. I got the book as a gift, and nearly threw it in the garbage, as I saw on the cover that it was an "Oprah Book Club" book. I started reading it. It has a strange style. You never really find out what caused the end of the world as we know it, but it does have some horrifying scenes. Like the part where he goes into that basement and finds those people. And yes, the revolver he had only had two bullets in it, which we slowly learn is to kill himself and his young son, when it comes to it. I'll watch the movie, but I have no doubt they will fuk it up, just as they did the movie "I Am Legend". I read that book, and it had almost nothing to do with the movie they made it into. The "Omega Man" was much closer to the book. |

The "Omega Man" was much closer to the book. It did have a strange style. I will give it that. Sure that scene where he finds the people in the basement was kinda creepy but that lasts a whole half page and he just runs away and you never really find out anymore about them. I would have liked to see some more character interaction but i guess the novel was just trying to keep the focus on the father and son. I think what really killed me was the boring dialogue between the father and son. I guess it would probably be realisitic but often it was so simplistic and boring. |

Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. Quoting: Evil TwinThis time of year, the grass grows like 3" per day, so I spend my weekends riding around on the tractor drinking beer and mowing. Only crashed into 2 trees last weekend, lol. Man, I try to drink a beer on my riding mower, but I need two hands, and if I use the drink holder it gets dirty and all shook up? How do you do it? I know what you mean about trees tho hahah I have planted 40 trees in the back and have 27 left ;) lol They are to big to run over now. Wonder if they're going to be as graphic as the book is...serious realism if this event were to happen...i.e. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 487162People eating human babies born from mothers who are treated like cattle, impregnated, and eventually deliver the meat (babies) Damn, I have not read the book but that sounds like some stomach turning doomamation. |
