Nearly One Million US Workers Cut Off Unemployment Benefits | |
Riots are coming User ID: 1000000 United States 06/20/2010 11:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The thing is how much or how long is enough? There will never be enough, the jobs are g o n e and are not coming back. Eventually there will be an uprising, once millions are completely out of extensions. I will probably be back on UE by fall and this year the prospects of more work is bleaker than ever. |

Great tidings of joy and trumpets blaring as "the ministry" can use tht to their benefit. (not just the Dems all govt's use skewed numbers to proclaim the "good" news) And of course the stock market will react positively to this "good news". |

Saddest part is that american society and most western nations don't care about their fellow neighbour being evicted or living homeless in a van. I know someone homeless living in a van since December and it breaks my heart. I have nothing to give him since I'm also unemployed and on disability for the time being. I don't know how to feel about anything anymore. Times like these, you really feel disconnected from spirit and God. It's hard to keep the faith. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1009496 United States 06/20/2010 11:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think that these three excerpts really say it all... Quoting: MountainTux"In the two and a half weeks since June 1, when the last extension expired, some 903,000 workers have seen their benefits cut off. By June 26, that number will top 1.2 million. Meanwhile, the Labor Department reported that the number of new claims for unemployment compensation jumped to 472,000 last week, the highest figure in several months. The result is that a Congress that rushed through a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street in October 2008 in a matter of days, and authorized a further financial windfall to the banks and speculators five months later, cannot bring itself to support even the most meager subsistence for the unemployed workers who are the victims, not the perpetrators, of the economic crisis." _____ "According to press reports, leading Senate Democrats are seeking to win votes from the bill’s opponents by eliminating a $25 a week increase in jobless benefits that was part of the 2009 stimulus package. In other words, either all 10 million jobless workers would see a $25 cut in benefits, from checks averaging $309 a week, or benefits for the 5.7 million long-term unemployed would be cut off completely. Either way, those deprived of work by the economic crisis of capitalism, the most vulnerable section of the working class, will be made to pay." _____ "While the White House and Congress wrangle over the smallest of subsistence measures for the jobless, neither party nor the corporate elite as a whole propose to do anything to provide jobs for the unemployed. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that American corporations have increased their cash reserves to $1.84 trillion, the highest figure in history. In other words, big business and the banks, after an unprecedented bailout by the public treasury, are hoarding the funds that could put millions back to work. The cash reserves of major corporations have jumped 26 percent in one year, the largest percentage increase in nearly 60 years. The cash reserves of working people, and particularly the unemployed, have not been so fortunate." _____ This isn't even MY government, and yet I'm shocked and saddened. I feel sorry for these people, thrown to the dogs by the same government that calls CORPORATIONS "Too big to fail." Shouldn't the lives and livelihoods of the people they were elected by, and swore to do right by, ALSO be considered too big to fail? <<SIGH>> Full article: [link to globalresearch.ca] Obama is sitting on $450 billion of TARP funds he's saving for the November elections to sweeten the pot for Democrat incumbents. He'll release the money to make the Democrats look good when elections are held. Let Obama use some of that scratch for the little people. |

But that is not going to happen. Idon't like living off IU but I really hate that there are no jobs either. Which in itself wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that they have taken away our right to survive. |

Just wondering. Quoting: CXT99 weeks So a person laid off in January 2010 would draw for 99 weeks? The unemloyed getting cut off NOW have already drawn the 99 weeks? The jobs just aren't out there. Why cut them off? If the banks needed another bailout, they'd get it! "I'm still here, you bastards!"...Papillion |

Sit around and get "lobbied" and "let the market" take care of itself? Sit around as the "market" FLATTENS ECONOMIES TO THE BENEFIT OF ELITIST FEW? Wallstreet Baystreet Europe Asia are full of criminals. It's their job to prosecute criminals and protect people. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 876465 Canada 06/20/2010 12:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | people say tough titties if you are in an unemployment mess. meanwhile, Canada is spending over a billion dollars to host the elite for 3 days in Toronto. Meanwhile, we have homeless and the unemployed and money needed to fix roads and transit and yet nothing. A billion would help fix the damn subway system and make it longer to stretch to the suburbs so traffic will be lessened. Nope. and people don't give a shit if you are out of a job, the attitude of "as long as it ain't me!" they will continue to watch footy and drink beer. I kinda do want EVERYTHING to collapse so everyone who just sits on GLP with their comfortable jobs loses all their shit. |

For example you could be on your first extension and half way through it the deadline hits. That means you finish whatever is left of that first extension then you are cut off. I could be wrong but the way it reads on the ohio UE site, thats how it sounds. Snip from the ohio UE site: "Without new legislation, claimants who exhaust their regular unemployment compensation or EUC benefits will not be eligible for the next tier of benefits. With the most recent filing deadline already lapsed, some claimants’ weekly benefit payments may have ceased." |
