Usually, I would see lots of activitie. Only the pigeons flying and I hear two birds in the far distance chirping. It is very quiet. Quoting: HickorySee, it is the kind people who actually put the feeders out who really are the first to notice what is happening in the neighborhood, bird wise. I hope it is the same here, that they are busy on the trees and feeders of my neighbors. As long as they finally come an clear out the berries on the 4 old trees, I will be happy. (OP) User ID: 1102003 United States 01/05/2011 03:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What I found abnormal this summer is that crows were flying by groups of 100 or more, as opposed to a dozen max in the past. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1172356Wow, now that would be so fascinating to see. I have seen a ton of hawks and magpies and ravens, of late, within the cities limits... Had a young hawk perched on my roof this summer. :) He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past. -1984 |

(OP) User ID: 1102003 United States 01/05/2011 03:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is not a single bird in the entire sky. (Washington, DC) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1010440ru serious? Not even a pigeon? Everyone, go to your freeway overpasses and look for the pigeons. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1081321 United States 01/05/2011 03:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live about 50 miles west of Philadelphia. We have had zero birds at our backyard feeder for 3 days. In the preceding weeks we had birds feeding all the time. Also, I received a window feeder as a Christmas gift. I hung it over the weekend and filled it with seed, but no birds have come. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1026437 United States 01/05/2011 03:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Honestly, Quoting: ExhaleAeonVoltsWe have a ton of fruitless pear trees that provide tons of feed for the winter birds at this time of year. Usually the 4 different trees surrounding my house are full of the blackbirds and many other varieties, including robins. I have seen flocks of blackbirds in a 10 mile radius. I have seen a lot of Geese in a few farm fields in the area. I have seen the footprints of the pigeons next to my water feature and seen them perched on my neighbors roof. But, I haven't seen the normal winter bird visitors. The little ones who eat the berries on my trees. It is actually very quiet. Anyone else notice a lack of birds in their neighborhood? As I reported earlier on another bird death thread...I'm in So FL and have a habit of feeding the birds here in my yard. There are ALWAYS several kinds, both front and back yard,as well as filling up a huge dead tree across the road, but for about 3 days now, there are none. NONE. NO ONE is coming to eat the food or drink/bathe in the water fountains. It is VERY creepy. |
I am the Walrus User ID: 1212577 United States 01/05/2011 03:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in southeast Tennessee, and we had far fewer birds at our feeders this year than in the past. Usually have a wide variety & large numbers. No bluebirds this year, only 3 hummingbirds all summer long, and usually I have dozens, hardly any starlings (usually, they love our yard and we have dozens), only 3 downy woodpeckers and 1 red bellied wood pecker all year, very few robins. Usual numbers of chickadees, finches & cardinals, tho. We even have fewer doves than normal. Haven't seen any dead on the ground nor heard anything on the news recently, however there was a report mid-summer about many blackbirds being found dead in yards and fields. |

I've always had tons of birds on my property, all winter long. This year, especially in the last week, I've noticed a huge drop. I have Sand Plovers on my driveway all the time. They are all gone. No doves. Cardinals are missing. Even the Canadian Geese, which are normally a huge problem, are well down in numbers. All I've seen, yesterday and today, have been a few geese and sparrows. I live near a bird sanctuary and see rare birds on a regular basis, but not for the last year or so. Numbers are WAY down. |

(OP) User ID: 1102003 United States 01/05/2011 03:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think I am going to go for a long walk in the neighborhood today and tomorrow. Birds are very migratory (obviously) I usually have a ton of different birds, who I couldn't even name by species, visiting at winter. I have lived her for only a few years and was so shocked to see the poliferation of birds in this neighborhood in all four seasons. I am left dismayed as others have stated. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1218322 United States 01/05/2011 03:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Colorado here.. We have a pasture of cows across from our house, we have trees everywhere, we went to another field yesterday to feed some horses, and it occurred to us.. no birds! The ONLY birds we have seen in the area in the last several days was one small flock of about 15 unidentified small greyish birds that flew above us as we went down the road. Looked out windows to ever side of our house right now and not one single bird in a tree, flying, nada. We are in the part of Colorado that isn't snowy or too cold all winter.. West of Pueblo. |
