Anonymous Coward User ID: 20589235 United States 01/14/2014 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WATER is THE LIFEBLOOD of EVERY US City. Without water a city has about 3 days to live. MOST people do NOT keep any spare water around. Let the Charlestown disaster be a warning that EVERYBODY should have at least 7 days worth of drinking/cooking) water per person stored if they live in a house (minimum 2 gal/day/person - ie: 14 gal per person), and that is if there is NO toilet flushing and NO cleaning up/washing. In days of old people's houses had cisterns for the storing of rainwater, so each house regularly stored several thousand gallons. Today not only do most houses NOT have cisterns, in many (most?) places it is flat out illegal to have a cistern (in Colorado it is criminally illegal to capture ANY rain water) Time for a change in the laws, and in attitudes, so that people can again have cisterns, if for no other everyday purpose than to provide for water their lawns, washing cars, etc. unless a water emergency occurs and then it can be used for drinking, bathing, etc (with proper filtration/sanitizing). If anything positive has came from this , it is that I've got a small..albeit very small, taste of what it would be like to be stuck in even a small city without drinkable water. The community here did very well, all things considered, but I can only imagine a large inner city in a place much different than this small "country" town where people are more capable to take care of themselves, or are able to visit relatives seemingly close by that have all they need. New York, Chicago, Atlanta, L.A. ?? It would be a complete disaster!!! I'm very fortunate to work and live in here. Quoting: TheFireman |

There was a chemical leak of some sort that spilled into the Elk River in West Virginia. Here is an article. [link to usnews.nbcnews.com] ...All told, 169 people have sought treatment at hospitals for symptoms such as nausea. Of those, 10 were admitted to three different hospitals, but their conditions weren’t serious. Federal authorities, including the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, have opened an investigation into Thursday’s spill. According to the state DEP, Freedom Industries is exempt from DEP inspections and permitting since it stores chemicals, and doesn’t produce them. But the DEP ordered Freedom Industries to move its coal processing chemicals to a safer site and said it has 24 hours to start writing a plan on how it will clean up the spill and any soil contamination |

My advice ~ Don't Drink the Water Quoting: TheFireman Just wanted to post a nice "thank you". Why? Because this nation has been brainwashed into thinking and/or treating police officers as the local every day "hero" because of their "job". Ever since I was a child I have never under stood this mentality. YOU sir are the one who should be looked upon as a "hero". By "you" I mean you and all firemen. You put your life in some incredibly dangerous positions and never receive the appreciation that is due. I know most people will say... aw shut up because "thats your job". Yes, they are right. What they do not understand is your job is to save lives. No one ever sees a video of a fireman beating the shit out of someone they are called to help, yet every day there is a new video of the so called "heros" in law enforcement shooting, beating, arresting or harassing some innocent bystander. So, thank you for the job you do and may God bless you and keep you safe while doing your job. "What are you helping with all this helping?" Buddhist saying |

I hope the people sue the hell out of them I do too but I think the State may have some responsibility in this as they have very lax regulations on that type of facility. Fireman? I would have to check into that. I doubt ver seriously that they are lax. We have an abundance of chemical plants and coal companies in the area that are probably being over regulated by the EPA. As to this company and the guidelines and regulations??? I'm not sure. They haven't had an inspection at the plant since something like 2000 per their lax laws. Who puts these storage vats with chemicals near a river anyway. Rocks in their heads. I guess the people who just sold the company to the new company knew something was coming. THEY ALSO SHOULD BE SUED. Crooked criminals. Who did the inspections before the sale to the new owners??? They should be sued, too. Sue all the MFkrs. |
