Heheheh, I LOVE the way you idiots go on about fraudsurance! I have paid out tens of thousands over my life time to fraudsurance companies and had a working life times worth of National Fraudsurance stolen directly out of my pay packet. I have NEVER, NOT ONCE, had any sort of payout!!!! Even now, that I am dis-abled and cannot walk more than 100 yards or so, I don't get a single penny from ANY of the fraudsurance's I paid - NOTHING! I will NEVER again pay a cent towards fraudsurance, I will go to prison rather than have another penny stolen from me, government or otherwise!

This isn't a tragedy it's poor planning. God's people should have more wisdom than this. I hope OP gets on his knees, humble himself, and learns something from this.

I disagree. The building was not finished yet, and could not be appraised for insurance purposes until it was finished.
 Quoting: tiger1

Where do you doofuses come from? Can't insure a building under construction? That's funny because I've done it several times.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4166720

It might depend on what insurance company he has. Some are rather picky.
My youngest daughter bought another car in September, a newer used car. Her old car had just liability. She went right from the dealer to the insurance company to pay the insurance for her new car, which has full coverage, BTW. Under the insurance she had on the old beater, if anything happened to her new car BEFORE she got to the insurance office, all that would have been covered was the basic liability. So, if her new car got totaled on the way to the insurance company office, she would have lost all the money she paid for the new car.
Like I said, it depends on the insurance company.
 Quoting: tiger1

Hmm. My dealership contacted my insurance company first to get a temporary policy on that day while they work on the new policy and give us in a few days.

Sorry to her of the loss, OP! Will add my prayers for a swift re-build! What kind of business did you have??

And don't mind the dips posting sh** - anyone who's a small business owner knows the hard work that goes into it, and the risk we run if something goes bad! Hang in there!!!

Years of blood, sweat and tears. Gone in a fire that the Fire Marshall says is unexplained. No discernible cause.

We will rebuild, as best and as quickly as we can.

It took less than an hour. Apparently temperatures reached 700 degrees inside.

There will be a track hoe here tomorrow to drag what's left of the building into a hole and bury it.

I told my wife that I started this business in my garage, and I can re-start it in my garage.

Any orders that did not ship before Friday were burned up. The new building was not even finished yet, not appraised, and not insured.

Even so, I trust the Lord.

Don't worry...just DO!

I had a disatrous fire (electrical) at my manufacturing plant two years ago.

We recovered and went on to have a record sales year!

Just start over. You may consider subbing out machining, etc.

You could buy an Army tent and assemble product in that.

I checked your website, cool product line.

Product line, intellectual property, good employees, and customers: you know that's 95% of any good business. Hopefully, you still have all those.

Godspeed and carry on.

You say "new building", was there an old building and if so, did you have insurance on it?

The reason I ask is that many commercial insurance policies will afford insurance on new construction or acquired buildings for a limited time and amount.

If you had insurance in force you need to contact your agent or refer to your policy before assuming there is no coverage.

If you had no insurance, I'm sorry.

Ok, this was an existing business with existing facilities, correct?

Did you have insurance on this business, NOT the new building but the business itself?

If so, you may have at least some limited coverage for the new building...you need to check with your agent and or policy.

btw...I'm a licensed agent so I'm not just guessing about this.

Of course, coverage varies from state to state and policy to policy but please, do not assume...it could cost you money.

if you had a successful business pretty much any venture capitalists will loan you the money to rebuild, cuz it's a sure thing as long as you get insurance this time.

Re: My business burned down Sunday night. Looking for strength and prayers.
As stated in original post, no. The new building was not finished, even though we were using it. I was going to get an appraisal and insurance when it was done.
 Quoting: Azaziah

OP - Check your policy on the existing structure closely. Renovations/expansions can be part of the policy when on the same property.

If the work is being performed by someone else there is something called Builder's risk insurance ("Licensed, Bonded and Insured"). Depending on your municipality this can be a requirement for the builder to pull building permits.

For future work, check if you can purchase Builder's risk insurance yourself. Again, depending on your municipality, you can get coverage regardless of who is doing the work.

In short, don't give up just yet! Review the insurance laws in your area. Certainly ask a 3rd party if there's a way to make you whole again if needed!
 Quoting: Taking Suggestions

Good advice. Thank you.
 Quoting: Azaziah

I love it....obviously we have other insurance agents here.

Take the advice OP...as stated, if you have existing insurance it could very well provide coverage for the new building... also,if a contractor was doing the consturction for you they may have builders risk insurance, etc.

Additionally, most commercial policies provide for whats called "business interuption" coverage. It provides lost income after a loss and funds to help you get back up and running quickly.

I'm sure any one of us would be glad to help you if you need it. You are welcome to send me a pm if you think I can help.

Good luck

if you got a solid customer base and orders, investors won't even have to think about it, but of course they'll want 10% or whatever but the more you can talk them down cuz it's a less risk investment

if an investment bank looks at your profits and wants in at 15%, they may pay you to expand on a larger scale so you make them more money.

We are already seeing some amazing things...

For example Mike, our IT guy, took it upon himself to do a private 'crowdfunding' with some of his IT co-horts. He raised enough $ in 12 hours to pay cash for the smaller CNC machine. I did not even know he was doing it.

As of this afternoon, the CNC has been ordered and is being built for us now. We should have it up and running within 10 days.
