How so?

I was in bed for 6 months when I injured my lower back. After about 4 months, I started having pain in my upper back. The pain was incredible.

It was due to muscle weakness. I had a muscle that would knot and become very inflamed.

After 6 months, my lower back recovered enough so that I could sit in a chair. It took several months for the muscles to recover.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know bedsores can be a problem, too. (really bad) But this is just over 2 months with aerobic exercises....

It would be kinda horrible, but I think I would bite the bullet for the money!

Could think of a lot of inner city ghetto types who may go for this.
But then again, maybe not. $18,000 over-the-table money would disqualify them from welfare.

why is nasa interested in this type of research?

I spent 3 months on bed rest before my son was born. I had serious blood pressure issues with my pregnancy. During this time I was to lay on my left side getting up only for necessities. I wouldn't do this again for any amount of money. After all was over it took me months before I felt right again. It's amazing how quickly your body can deteriorate.

i guessing they want to study what not using you muscle for 70 days would do to a person. Wouldn't hooking up shock receptors on the body stimulate muscles? Therefore giving the person in months of weightlessness the exercise needed to combat muscle loss.

Am I that stupid or is 70 X 170 = 11900 ? So that is a third less then promised. Typically NASA, never telling a simple answer.

Laying in bed all day will destroy Your back and cause lots of problems in the future. I have a profession that has lots of down time and when You are staring at a metal wall all day sometimes sleeping is the only thing to do. I have lived this way for 18 years and I am plagued with horrible back problems. I wouldn't recommend this life style and to be honest You are better off working manual labor your whole life.

Guess it also has something to do with the deep sleep option they are researching.

Can I beat off?

From the earlier post about having to stay in bed for pregnancy, I remembered that I did exactly that for both of my pregnancies--6 wks. And I did nothing but pleasure myself all day. (being pregnant makes you horny if you are bored)

So now, being reminded of that, I think I could handle it.
