Longest Streak of Triple-Digit Heat Since 2013 Forecast in Dallas

An unrelenting and dangerous heat wave will expand across the South Central United States through this weekend and retain a firm grip on a part of the region well into late August.

An increasing number of communities will endure triple-digit heat through this weekend across the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley as a strong ridge of high pressure builds eastward.

Dangerous Heat to Build Across Germany, Poland

Another round of scorching heat is impacting millions of people from Spain to Poland, and no relief is expected until next week.

Meanwhile, following some brief relief in France and Germany, unseasonable heat has returned and will last into Saturday before another shot of cooler air arrives.

The setup for this unseasonable heat is a slow-moving storm to the northwest of the British Isles and high pressure over eastern Europe which will combine to promote a strong southwest flow from northern Africa and Spain into northern and central Europe.

Puerto Ricans face punishing drought amid economic slump

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Ricans are learning to live without water on an island that already was suffering an economic crisis.

A severe drought is forcing businesses to temporarily close, public schools to cancel breakfast service and people to find creative ways to stay clean amid sweltering temperatures.

Rationing rules that had meant water coming through the pipes only one day out of three will increase the cutoff to one day out of four starting next week, government officials say.

Heat Wave Causes Millions in Damage to Israeli Crops

Israel has not escaped the heat wave scorching the Middle East in recent days, which has caused massive damage to the Israeli agricultural industry to the tune of millions of shekels.

Figures provided Monday by KANAT, the Insurance Fund for Natural Risks in Agriculture, indicate that in the last 24 hours alone, over 250 notifications of damage have been received from farmers. KANAT estimates that due to the nature of the damage, the scale of notifications will increase even more in the coming days.

KANAT's situation room has received 250 notifications of turkeys, chickens and other livestock dying from the heat wave, with most of the over 40 degree Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) heat damage recorded in the north of the country.
