12/27/2015 04:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to an estate sale last year. As soon as I walked into the house, I told my friend that I mfelt an overwhelming sense of sadness in the atmosphere. Shortly after, we walked into a room that had bookcases full of photo albums and numerous boxes with slides of family photos. I asked the man running the estate sale about it. He said the family came in and took what they wanted and that not one of the family members wanted the family photos or slides. Could it have been that there were no happy memories to be captured in the family photos or were these family members just scavengers who cared only about possessions? I had to leave the house after that. It was such an uncomfortable feeling. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34760435 You are here and you got >>> here <<<< because someone else fought and lived and prospered and brought you into this world. You think of them everyday even if you do not think you think of them.... You may not know the name of the thousands of ancestors you have but know you are here because they got you here... We do celebrate the ones before us all the time... Honor them by being good and carrying on. What would you want? You would want your descendants to live and be happy and you would want people to be happy and be doing their own thing. You are working for a better tomorrow and someone will be thankful and maybe they do not know your name but they will know you. What a wonderful world. Exactly. The struggles, trials, and joy of many people before us brought us to this moment, good or bad. Many people live on through all of us. |

I've also seen headstones that the wording was illegible or the stone its self was broken or collapsed. I've seen headstones that had photo(s) embedded in it. Markers of someone having passed. So many it boggles the mind. |

All the heart aches suffering, and if your lucky good times, all for no one to remember or care. My head can't wrap around it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69074263 After a walk thru a real old cemetery, you will be able to wrap your head around it. It is not a pleasant experience. Exactly. Last week I was visiting a local cemetery and as I walked through and noticed headstones from 75 or 100 years ago I thought, "They should dig these up and make room for new bodies, 'cuz nobody is visiting THESE graves anymore." I visit the old graves, wondering who they were, what was their story, especially in this huge desert country. I see all the babies and children they lost, some from disease, some from famine, others unknown. Lost husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, and parents. I understand and admire their courage, strength, and persistence, in their struggle to survive in an unknown land, where the seasons were opposite when they arrived here, where their gardens shriveled in our extreme heat, and later were flooded away, and our depleted soil did not nourish their gardens. And then the deadly snakes, redback spiders, and all our other deadly creatures unknown to them. I stand in awe, I honor them, whoever they were, I thank them, they are my ancestors. Gone, not forgotten. |

So while no one may remember a certain somebody we once were, in the end we will attain true enlightenment through a long learning process. Or something to that effect. Who knows really... |
