Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies found two bodies in Bog Hot Springs over the weekend.

Deputies responded at about 9 a.m. on Sunday to a call of two bodies found in a hot spring just north of Winnemucca, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Capt. Kevin Malone said.

That's a strong possibility, or Carbon Monoxide poisoning, emitting from the hot water.

You would be surprised at what gasses off from your typical, backyard spa or hot tub.

Even carbon dioxide is toxic at fairly low levels. I would guess they got drunk, overheated, passed out, finito.

There was a lake in Africa that gave off a massive CO2 release. Killed everyone and all the animals in the village next to it.

I release methane all the time, but I've never ended up in a hot spring in Nevada.

All in all pretty freaky event, but not uncommon if im not mistaken. This happens from time to time in hot springs does it not?

In the article they were saying they thought the temperature fluctuates but weren't sure of the details. Like it's never really been studied, a long term tracking of the water temp at different depths of the hot springs.
