There are interesting articles out there about the Mosul dam in Iraq. Never should have been built but Saddam insisted. It is build on permeable easily eroded rock (limestone or sandstones, I forget) and they walk it every day, inside and out, and grout the ever appearing leaks constantly. There is state of the art grouting equipment these days....its like a mouth full of rotting teeth getting fillings all the time, you just have to stay on top of it.

Scott Cahill said they could fix the Oroville leaks-probably- with a six month intensive grouting program. That does not fix the gates...he wanted to see a whole new gate structure built where the new spillway is...but at least it would fix the leaky hillside and the leaky dam. I don't know if they could try to prop up the sagging gate structure or not, or what to do about the broken anchor tendons. Doing nothing is not the answer though.

CA has done nothing. It is not ignorance about dams. DWR knows all this. It is deliberate.

The only conclusion is that they want the dam to fail. The wilderness agenda? Destruction of the food supply? Just plain old sociopathy? Does it matter? They want Oroville dam to fail. All the talk about hydropower clean energy and they won't fix the dam.

What's the forecast Crunch, you heard anything about the la Nina el Nino potentials? A dry winter or a string of pineapple expresses? Hope you get a dry one and the collapse of central valley holds off a little longer.

The Oroville Dam main spillway gate structure is laterally racked. Out of square. Likely due to subsistence of the underlying soil/rock at the east end. This the same end of the structure where we saw the 'road gap', and the same side of the spillway where we see the recurring water permeation. This is why the gates leak and don't seal properly. Juan Blancornholio
has told everyone that the gates leak because the seals are 'metal on metal'. This is total BS. Each gate has rubber seals on all four edges. They were designed to seal, not leak.

DWR and contractors were able to square up the gate structure with used I-beams as temporary supports just prior to DWR's video of the first run of the new spillway. The gates that had been leaking for months were completely dry at the beginning of that video. @weiryone's excellent photos proved the temporary supports had been installed, and evidenced the severity of the bowing of the supports due to the tremendous stress being placed on them.

Later, when those supports were being removed, the gate structure reverted to it's skewed geometry resulting in the 'unintended' release of water from the gates WHILE WORKERS WERE IN THE SPILLWAY CHUTE. Twice in one day. Completely irresponsible by DWR, yet they try to deny it and cover it up. California Government deception in high gear.

Yes, it is deliberate deception of the public by CA DWR and those 'journalists' such as Juan Cornholio. Blacked out, redacted information in the dam reports, as they are crowing, 'the dam is fine' repeatedly.

The dam is not fine. the spillway gate structure is not fine. The gates are headed for a failure as we saw at Folsom Dam years ago. Same gate design. Same failing anchor tendons.

I have not heard about any future weather tendencies this season. It has been very dry so far, but Feb. - Mar. are the usual rainmakers.

Yeah, outflow is running 1500-1600 CFS. That's one turbine from the power plant. Remember, all of the power produced by the Hyatt power plant is used for the California Water Project operations. None of it is available for household use.

Rainfall is only about 5" for the season so far. Normally, we would be at 12-15" by now.

The next three months will tell us if CA DWR is going to be shitting their pants.
