Still need tanks but mobility to seize land quickly is more important. Not saying tanks aren't fast either... they operate slower tactically

Tanks tend to suck in citys with the advent of car bombs. Too big, too slow, too vulnerable. It can't respond to aircraft strikes, it can't respond to suicide bombers in explosive packed cars. Conflict has evolved beyond the practical uses for a tank.
