His vids are interesting. It all boils down to the quality of storage rather than product. Some of the foods are perfectly edible. One of the reviews he did was of WORLD WAR I RATIONS!

It's amazing to see all the old products and how they last through time.

i've eaten some canned goods that were way over the expiration date. never had a problem

but it is true canned or boxed things with certain ingredients do go rancid. Canned tomotoes don't do well.

i've eaten ten year old sardines and been just fine.

same with some canned chilis and things.

it's a case by case thing.

ive eaten tons of expired canned goods...

never once gotten sick from them.
only times i got food poisoning was from taco trucks and buffets..

not advocating anything..just saying

I ate a 6ish year old can of salmon last winter.. it was great.

The rule of thumb is: if the can is bloating, then it's gone bad.

Does not anyone wonder if SAID DATE CODES are just for us to not let it sit on the shelves of our pantry or grocery store for 10 years?

Maybe these date codes are so we just throw out perfectly good food.

TOUGHEN UP EVERYONE. A friend at college, his roommate from Asia would leave his bowl of PORK SOUP in the unrefrigerated cabinet. Nothing happened to him.

I personally have eaten POPTARTS that were 2 years beyond expiration date.

I have eaten tuna in oil years past expiration date.

Most do not know this but stored properly canned food especially in glass is meant to last NEARLY FOREVER.

Tomatoes & berries can eat through metals cans though.

I know. Everyone was all bent out of shape when this thread originally appeared. Now, with three years of prepping under many belts all over, we all know that dried foods usually store really well. Not to mention all those preservatives, unfortunately, whether good or bad.. If one is starving and had to choose between old, chemical laden preservative processed food - OR NOTHING AT ALL, most humans would grab the food.

The nazis served saw dust and dirty water to the concentration camp starving and dying. They made them shit and piss in a small tin cup that they also forced them to eat out of - with no running water to wash out the tin cup with. Think about that.

I work at a food pantry/distribution center - as long as it has no tomatoes (acidic/can breakdown the metal) - it's good for a couple years after the date.
