User ID: 68199120 United States 05/24/2019 11:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like Louisiana may be in for severe flooding!! The Corp of Engineers is saying they will probably have to open the Morganza Spillway which will release the Mississippi River into rural areas of Louisiana due to the amount of water coming down the Mississippi river. Quoting: MarketPulse [link to www.zerohedge.com (secure)] "One of the major barriers that keeps the Mississippi River on its course could be opened for only the third time in its history. The opening would be the result of rising river levels and could also flood parts of Louisiana, which would affect businesses in the region, according to Bloomberg. The Army Corps of Engineers may be forced to open the Morganza Floodway, a lengthy dam-like barrier that redirects 600,000 cubic feet, or 17 million liters of water, per second to take pressure off the Mississippi. The river has been at high levels since last October as a result of massive rainfalls that have also had a negative effect on crops in the region." If you live in the area, you should be plan accordingly. That IS what it was built for..... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77517484 United States 05/24/2019 11:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't even tell me that those fucktards in Louisiana built a spillway that just dumps out into some towns or shit like that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77517484 Even THEY can't be that dumb, right? most of new orleans is elevation under sea level, and is surrounded by water Yeah I know, pretty dumb, but they DO have flood controls, levees, canals, pumps, all that shit. I just assumed this "Morganza" spillway isn't right there by New Orleans. Creepy name for a spillway too, but they roll with all that voodoo bullshit down there, probably means something in creole, like "Look out for water dumbass, here come da flood". |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77517484 Even THEY can't be that dumb, right? The towns were there for almost 300 years already along the natural banks of the river. Problem is, in 1927 midwest flooding caused the river to surge and it actually sliced a new path bypassing a bend in the river and causing catastrophic damage. The spillway system was built to keep the new path of the river from overflowing it's banks. The system has been effective but with this much water coming down from the epic flooding in the midwest, it leaves no choice but to open the floodgates to relieve pressure so it doesn't blow a levee downriver by more populated areas. Kinda like what happened at that dam out in California. You only hear about SpecOps when they go wrong. |

Actually large amounts of rice, sugarcane and sweet potatoes are grown there. Almost all the domestic cane sugar produced in the US comes from there. You only hear about SpecOps when they go wrong. |

Singer Robert Plant used many of the original words and the songwriting is credited to Memphis Minnie and the individual members of Led Zeppelin.[1] Many other artists have performed and recorded versions of the song. Very sad situation. For those with enough brain cells to grasp what this all means....it is very heartbreaking.... The rest of the brainless will just get all mad when they go to the grocery store and there is nothing there. When we know what is coming it would be good if people as a whole/in general had the where-with-all to plant every available green space they could find. It should almost be a requirement like it was with "Victory Gardens". These though are needing to be called "Survival Gardens". People just don't have a clue in general that two consecutive years of flooding like this and major famine will be in America. |

The worst case scenario in all of this is the mississippi and atchafalya rivers swap in course. this would be catastrophic on many levels other than killing thousands in the area. the lower end of the mississippi would be un navigable due to water shortage.... and that is one busy port of entry |
