Yeah I know, pretty dumb, but they DO have flood controls, levees, canals, pumps, all that shit.

I just assumed this "Morganza" spillway isn't right there by New Orleans. Creepy name for a spillway too, but they roll with all that voodoo bullshit down there, probably means something in creole, like "Look out for water dumbass, here come da flood".

The towns were there for almost 300 years already along the natural banks of the river. Problem is, in 1927 midwest flooding caused the river to surge and it actually sliced a new path bypassing a bend in the river and causing catastrophic damage. The spillway system was built to keep the new path of the river from overflowing it's banks.

The system has been effective but with this much water coming down from the epic flooding in the midwest, it leaves no choice but to open the floodgates to relieve pressure so it doesn't blow a levee downriver by more populated areas. Kinda like what happened at that dam out in California.

Almost all the domestic cane sugar produced in the US comes from there.

It sure it. Very sad situation. For those with enough brain cells to grasp what this all means....it is very heartbreaking.... The rest of the brainless will just get all mad when they go to the grocery store and there is nothing there.

When we know what is coming it would be good if people as a whole/in general had the where-with-all to plant every available green space they could find. It should almost be a requirement like it was with "Victory Gardens". These though are needing to be called "Survival Gardens".

People just don't have a clue in general that two consecutive years of flooding like this and major famine will be in America.

the Morganza is no where near nola. The worst case scenario in all of this is the mississippi and atchafalya rivers swap in course. this would be catastrophic on many levels other than killing thousands in the area. the lower end of the mississippi would be un navigable due to water shortage.... and that is one busy port of entry

In the United States people should be free to "live where ever the hell they want to live", but I do agree with you that the PROBLEM with living where you want starts with the expectation that it's the governments responsibility to make sure that you incur no financial losses for your decision to "live where ever the hell you want to live"

Don't stress. The fields here in the Delta outside the tall & wide/strong MS River levees are planted and looking good. Plenty of rice, corn, beans, & cotton.
