More than 90% of student loan debt is owned by the government. In some way, the government would have to take responsibility for that debt. By cancelling it, we the taxpayers lose the interest and payments that would have been made on those loans.

Actually, since the federal government owns quite a bit of student loan debt, our tax dollars have a lot to do with student loans and loan forgiveness.

The college scheme is in many ways similar to the housing scheme of the 90s which encouraged people to buy homes that they could never afford by taking out loans to do so. If you can't afford college, and you don't consider the massive burden of loans, you probably shouldn't go. People need to take responsibility for their actions and stop relying on the taxpayers by way of the federal government to solve their problems.

Warren has a similar plan, but I think she wanted to eliminate up to $50,000 in student loan debt for families making less than $100,000 a year. Bernie, in typical all-out socialist fashion, just decided to go whole hog and eliminate all of the debt.

Lol reparations for those who already paid? Your reward for getting an education was a job and being able to afford houses. There are no jobs now and several people with multiple properties stagnating the housing market by inflating prices.

What you fail to see is that people who can't afford these things are not contributing to your economy in the same way you are. While you can build a future fortune for your descendants , they barely get by.

This will cause a bigger divide in wealth, which in turn will lead to higher crime, higher addiction, mental illness and suiciderates and lower productivity.

Something has to be done or your economy will implode, so cut your losses.

I would like to see this happen. There is only one way it will. The banks who loaned the money get bailed by taxpayers. Same thing as in 2008. Somethings got to be done...young people are being crushed by fraudulent student loans.
