Only in the modernised countries with mass selection of imported fruit and veg, grains, pulses and rices and synthetic chemical vitamins can a vegan exist. He cannot even see this - that if he was dropped off in some remote part of the world that he'd starve to death if unable to hunt as it would takes months if in the right season to even grow his first potato, years his first piece of fruit etc
But in a rich society filled with grocery stores, he becomes blind to reality

I'm a farmer. I understand that eating meat is about 10% of why we keep livestock, the majority being the production of soil.

No soil, no food.

Vegans are overwhelmingly people who live in urban or suburban environments- completely man made and utterly divorced from Nature and it's functions. If you neither understand how things work holistically, nor are able to feed yourself (the production of food- shopping or eating at restaurant doesn't count) food becomes a fetishistic obsession. Think of how babies are pacified by sucking on a rubber nipple, that's what adults who have never produced a their own sustenance think and behave. Veganism also an overwhelmingly feminine phenomenon and understanding the female of the species you know that they make most of the choices based on emotional rather than rational prompts.

Big Ag/CAFO operations are a result of the great divorce- when people turned away from agrarian lifestyles and pursued specialization in urban environments. In other words, most of the vegan set, or at least their parents generation created the horrific conditions for most of the livestock used in the production of meat. They are the ones responsible for the ruination of watersheds and the depletion of soils because they create waste rather than tilth.

I have never met a vegan yet that could answer the two most important questions raised by the proposition of humans giving up a meat based diet-

1) What do you propose to do with the existing livestock populations?

2) Where will new soil come from?

They can't answer the questions because they don't even understand the premise, never mind having thought the entire process through logically. In fact it is a rare inhabitant of any city or suburb that every takes the wider integrated picture of how Nature operates into account when they come up with all their terrific and noble solutions to the problems of the world. It's all just infantile fantasy.
