I would agree that fanaticism is a major cause of destruction, simply because fanaticists are obsessed with one direction only, and however "good" or worthy their motives, it means they are acting within a certain framework which they cannot see beyond. And there is always a bigger picture, and a story behind the story, and optimally our outlook should include everyone globally - a real challenge - instead of a narrow focus. Perhaps "enthusiastic" or "dedicted" would have been a better word to use in this instance.
