Went to the VA ABC store today (alcohol) and they were only taking cash because the whole credit system was down for all of Virginia. I never carry cash and nearly left without my Grey Goose but luckily my son had enough cash to spot me.

I always use my debit card, I never have cash.

When I tried to pay by cash at my grocery store the other day, they looked at me in horror as though I had pulled out a shotgun or something.

I was told that only one checkout line was accepting cash, and that there would be a long wait for it. I declined to wait and paid by credit card instead. I suspect this time next week no one will be accepting cash at all.

My son experienced this in a store, too. I've worked lots of money jobs, processing large deposits. Money is filthy. I was getting colds all the time when I processed deposits for a large dept. store. But still, I want to use cash. Don't want all my business tracked.

i read in an old nineteen seventy four or five ALMANAC and one chapter started out how back then the banks and others were determined to create a cashless society.
their stated goal was they did not want anyone to carry anything tangible in the distant future and were pushing for credit cards over cash at that time.
it shocked me and i had to keep rereading it over to make sure i read it correctly.
the goal is the people everywhere would be completely cashless and the credit cards were a baby step in accomplishing this.
