So the great comet of 1844 has an orbital period of 600-800 years No. The orbital period of a highly elliptical comet is variable and hard to nail down precisely, particularly from astrometry that isn't extremely accurate. Tiny variations in the eccentricity result in large deviations in the orbital period. JPL's HORIZONS system lists the current orbital period of that comet as being about 3,800 years. Even my 8" would probably not fare any better. I am going to try and image it with my 360mm scope later this week if weather permits. If that's the case then it's dimmed even from my previous observations of it. That's disappointing. This could very well be my final livestream of the comet. I just had a thought.
