Comet ATLAS Disintegration Live Stream! *Live Again Tonight!

The ice is sublimating and if the comet's disintegrating that means it's not got enough ice left to be held together. It's coming apart and spreading out along the orbit.

Another promising naked eye celestial event that fizzled away. Godspeed Comet! Just don’t leave any pieces in our orbital plane in you way out.

It looks like Comet ATLAS is disintegrating. No, this doesn't threaten earth in any way, I predicted this might happen. I even said it was the most likely outcome on Francis Walsh's podcast a couple nights ago. And now it looks like I was right:

So tonight at 10pm eastern, 2:00 UT, I'll stream comet ATLAS as it starts to fade and disintegrate:


*Make that 9 pm eastern, 1:00 UT. Setup is going smoothly and I want to see if I can squeeze in a view of asteroid 1998 OR2.

I've tracked the comet myself, the debris will spread out along the orbit. There's not enough Delta v from disintegration to send chunks into Earth.

I was wrong to assume most of my livestream views were coming from GLP. Turns out they're mostly coming from a Facebook page. I'm not even posting it on there so I don't know where that's coming from. I think GLP's interest in this comet has waned. Probably too burned out by Elenin and ISON still.
