Well we can all walk off our jobs and stay at home. That includes everyone. Medical and electrical workers.

We can starve to death then and die in your homes. All safe and sound. 90 percent will die within one year.

Or we can just realize that viruses happen and we need herd immunity. If you aren’t elderly or immune compromised then stop worrying. This virus or viruses like it will not stop.

So get yourself healthy and get sleep. And stop stressing. That will kill you faster than the virus.

Exactly.

Stop watching so much tv OP. You are giving into the fear and will never be able to live your life. You might as well go into your closet and not come out.

People will get sick because that it how it is. It is good for our immune system to fight things off.

I live in a rural NC county also and it's the same way here. I went to the gas station last night and nobody had a mask on and they they were herded all up together in one big gossip fest. They looked at me like I was the retarded one for wearing a mask and gloves. I even overheard one of them whisper, "omg is she wearing gloves?" I think it's just the small town mentality. They don't believe it can happen to them.

OP go to the store and get yourself a bottle of wine or beer or those new seltzers and have some after dinner. Sit outside in nature if you can. You need to chill. If you don’t drink then get some chamomile tea and drink a double dose. If you are religious pray for God to help you calm down and stop freaking.

Chill out around your boss. And masks can actually make us sick if they trap a virus and we keep breathing it in. Just wash your hands and try not to touch your face. Take vitamin c. If you feel something coming on take an allergy pill. They dry stuff up. Drink hot liquids to keep the mucus thin in the back of your throat where viruses like to live.

If you have to wear something then wear a loose bandana or a scarf around your face. They are easy to breathe in and your boss can understand you. Have a couple to change throughout the day.

Don’t quit. We need to keep working or things will get really bad.

Re: Our rural NC county is blowing up now.....but my office is business as usual
We were way behind everybody else apparently. AND we have a meat-packing plant but won't say which one that is blowing up and will probably be shut down soon. It will be a huge hit for our county, but it is what it is.

Meanwhile, I work in a tiny law office where social distancing 6' is impossible. And my boss is incapable of maintaining any sort of distance--he usually is within 2' of me or standing directly over me, so I've started wearing a mask at my desk (only one in my office too because the other folks are locals and I guess figure since they all know each other or are related to each other on some level, they're immune to the virus). Anyway, my boss has gotten mad at me a couple times because he can't understand me through my mask (problem 1) and then today when I asked him to please back up and work on social distancing, he really got mad (problem 2).

Our county is small population-wise and people tend to go to the same like 5 stores, so if there's a blow-up at X meat packing plant, where do all those workers shop? And who is ensuring they quarantine themselves??? AND I don't know where my boss goes when he's outside the office or any of my other coworkers. Thus, we are in tight quarters all day and should be wearing masks and socially distancing as much as we can but I'M THE ONLY ONE. They stand around in groups talking about the outbreak at X meat plant and how there are probably a lot more cases in our county but THEY'RE NOT WEARING MASKS THEMSELVES.

I don't know what to do. I'm about to just walk about but normally I love my boss and I'm loyal to him. But he's being really unreasonable now. I'm starting to think many people around here are borderline retarded.

the company i work for just called most everyone back in to work today.

i've been here, but now they got the small business loan and decided everyone has to come back to work and get off unemployment.

most are PISSED because they were banking nearly $1000 per week tax free and now they're back to their normal pay that ranges from $10-20 per hour.

ah ok well i don't get unemployment, so i have no experience in it.

all i know is these people were getting a flat $600 check (plus enemployment percentage) and are making more money than i'm bringing in, all while i'm doing their work, and they were thrilled with the extra money.

guess they'll be finding that out next tax season.

Interesting to see that more people answered saying you are in the wrong than those who see the virus as a threat. Wonder how far that average holds.

Wish each naysayer would go visit where the virus is in full sway, and have a look at those dying. This thing is real. I don't care how many say "we need herd immunity" because those dead would not agree, nor would those fighting for their lives. This is not a joke, people. You treat covid-19 as though it is athlete's foot - no biggy - just treat it and move along.

OP, I think the way you think - the factory shut down IN YOUR AREA OF OPERATION due to the virus, and where do they shop, see an attorney, buy gas, etc - common sense say it is everywhere. Tell your boss very clearly - in writing if you think he will understand best that way - that you are not going to continue in your position if he will not respect the need to wear a mask, and to distance himself from you, rather than hanging over you at your desk. Tell him you will be leaving, and if he still needs someone when the emergency is over, you might consider returning. Period. Then leave it in his hands, but beware that even if he agrees, he will quickly "forget" his commitment.

All this naysaying - it's so easy to go along with the crowd and agree that it's not a big deal and we will just live as normally, no PPE, no cautions. It's hard to swim upstream, I know, but how many will live your life for you if you lose yours? Let them laugh, make fun of you, disagree with your decision to protect yourself and your family - in the end, if we were wrong, fine - at least we were careful and did what we knew best to do. If we were right, we are alive and the others may not be, or may be fighting for their lives. It's not over, it's not "a simple cold" nor "an ordinary flu". Too bad the naysayers can't or won't come back here, after being ill [if they survive] to admit they were wrong.
Prayer is the most powerful force on earth.

Meanwhile, wearing a mask for hours on end you are breathing in your contaminated co2 that your body is supposed to be ridding you of. And all germs in you are stuck to that mask and you keep breathing them.

Then the microscopic aerosolized virus laughs at your simple mask, going right through it, around it, then into your eyes.

You really need to just give up on the silly masks and distancing and just practice good health.

The masks are really to prevent someone who has the virus who is asymptomatic from giving it to everyone they come in contact with when they are out and about.

no idea, not my department to figure all that out.

i know said they brought back however many to fully be covered by the loan that they had to bring back. i think it was a certain payroll point in the past they had to meet but i don't know the details.

like i said, i've been working regardless and on salary, so doesn't' affect me in the slightest.

I'm near Charlotte and still haven't met anyone who has had it. 20 cases in our county, zero deaths.

Everyone was outside yesterday in the sun, no masks. Stores look pretty normal, even Walmart. Nothing like on the media where everyone is wearing a mask.

I agree totally with you. I am old and have underlying health conditions and I wouldn't make it if I caught the virus, so it does give me a sense of taking control over my own health and well-being wearing a little extra protection. Thank you for the advice. It's greatly appreciated. Many blessings to you!

This virus will be with us for awhile. They all mutate. And we can’t live in fear. Life leads to death. We can protect ourselves as much as possible but when we are crippled by fear that is not life. Just practice good hygiene get good sleep and live life.

Re: Our rural NC county is blowing up now.....but my office is business as usual
What I can't wrap my head around is it seems you have one of those jobs that can easily be done remotely.

Why people feel they have to have another person within arm's reach in an office setting is beyond me. Half the time they just want companionship and to "chat." It sucks.

Tell him if you can work from home and teleconference you won't have to wear a mask.

If he says no, keep pissing him off and hopefully he'll fire you and you can collect.

Then you can start looking at the ever-expanding list of remote office jobs you can do from the beautiful comfort of your own home.

Re: Our rural NC county is blowing up now.....but my office is business as usual
Most rural folks don't buy into all this BS that has been foisted upon the world. Some city folks call us 'dumb redneck farmers' yet us rural folks know to look at the numbers, which are manipulated to scare the shit out of everyone for their agenda to be fulfilled. Then they look around them and realize how many lemmings are going right over the cliff.

IF someone has a compromised immune system or some underlying health issue, then yeah, wear the mask/gloves, stay home, etc. But for the rest of us, we need to work and get on w/ life.
