Describe Your Financial Situation
Lately, I've been wondering how our brothers and sisters at GLP have been doing with paying rent, mortgage, bills, and food.

I think a lot of us would be interested in how our finances are holding up, as a sample of what's going on around us.

I'll post my own situation as a reply.

Re: Describe Your Financial Situation
Mine hasn't changed, -and is even better. I work from home now as a state worker, and we've been told by our governor that we should expect to work from home indefinitely if we can do it effectively. So, I save time and money not having to commute.

Of my 3 tenants, one is unemployed, but they're all still paying for my mortgage.

My pay and stimulus checks are extra I can use to pay down my credit card balances and monthly bills.

I'm a prepper, so my family has plenty of food for the coming year.

Same, I've been able to keep working this entire time. (Critical manufacturing)
Plus the work bonuses and stimulus check has helped.
I consider myself very fortunate right now, I know many are having a tough time financially.

Re: Describe Your Financial Situation
I am retired, luckily. My finances are stable. I received the 1200 stimulus check, but have been slowly giving it away as tips to minimum wage earners. I feel terrible for the current work force having to endure this virus AND the financial hardship that goes along with it. While my lifestyle has gotten a lot more boring, the toll on my livelihood has been very small. I suspect that is the case of most retirees.

Re: Describe Your Financial Situation
Better only because we learned from the Recession. Been donating to the local food bank every payday. We tucked stimulus into savings and also increased tax deferred retirement savings to offset the payback of those funds. We’re in full savings mode. Closing on a house in the sticks during Covid made us realize we want to move back to our home city.

I've been worried about that since I first discovered how underfunded they are, -and the expected stock market drop isn't going to help any.

I planned for that by buying a house with a lot of rent income. L'll be retiring when I pay off the house, and that huge mortgage will go to me instead.

Fortunately, I'm a zillionaire, and can ride this one out.

drevil

I do help out via various charities, of course.

Beware, though!

Many charities are (((scams))) and should be exposed, as such.

Do your own due diligence, when it comes to charitable giving, because there are always Klintoons, in the woodwork.

Bare bones type of income. I cut my hours to two days a week because no school for my kid. Will be able to pay bills but that’s absolutely it. Stimulus really helped me.

Re: Describe Your Financial Situation
I am working remotely from home, so my pay has not changed. I am humbly grateful for it. even though having to work like this is oftentimes very difficult working online vs having papers in front of me where I can see better.

I am thankful that my kids do not work at a business that has been shut down and they are not affected by all this, but recently they were working in a sales person business.

I don't know how people are going to pay rent if this goes on one more month or two.. like restaurants have to pay high rent with no money coming in, what are they gonna do? they cant just quit their property , what are they gonna do with all their restaurant equipment? cant put it in storage.. my friend saw one manager of a neighborhood restaurant crying because of their situation caused by this illegal shutdown which has gone on way too long and they keep moving the goal posts.. remember it was "to flatten the curve" then it was "stay home in order not to overwhelm the hospitals"

but the navy ships have been sent away, the temporary pop up hospitals that were built in Central Park and elsewhere are gone, McCormick Place hospital was shut down, etc.

so the only reason we are home is coz of politics and power trips by the governors.

Retired for two years with a small pension.

I was broke before this thing started and still am.

Not starving, the home is paid off and utilities are covered. Not much left for anything else, though.

We would be in great shape if not for the credit card debt. Making progress.
I've been married so long, I don't even look both ways when I cross the street.

Still working from home but am doing better financially. Between the wife and I we save about $200 in gas a month now. Also, Ive cut down smoking cigrettes significantly so I save another $100 /month on that too.
Wife cooks dinner more now that she doesnt have a long commute to work so we are saving money on take-out too!

All in all i'm ahead about $400/month.
