This is offical statement Oil doesn't explode at any conceivable temperature and pressure. It may burn but it would not explode. Even to get the heating oil in my house to burn, my boiler needs an "igniter" which basically sparks it a hundred times per second or more, to get it to keep burning. It barely burns let alone exploding. Heating oil is essentially ultra low sulfur diesel, so if that's a diesel powered boat, not much different from its fuel. . Any fuel tank goes and yea big fireball causes damage to nearby ships. This is offical statement Corrected it best I could considering I'm not involved but someone is over hyping it as the news gets out. Navy itself, media or you. Someone is overplaying it and I suspect media. If it was real bad it'd be on nonstop TV live commercial free. I'm not concerned yet. |

That’s hilarious. We probably just played you like the dumb Americans you are, so we wouldn’t have to pay for the extra fuel. Because who the fuck would want to defend a shitty little island like Hawaii let alone pay that much in fuel. There’s a reason your country is going to shit, maybe all the pointless military excursions would be one of them. Don’t forget we kicked your ass in 1812 and we can do it again |

Ahh but you alluded to moving it which in this case ,might be detrimental to effective damage control due to fire houses strewn about that would need to be disconnected. to get underway, let alone untying the lines. There is much more important goings on than worrying about downwind smoke. Once the fire is under control they'll move it anyway to dry dock for repair. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77390678 United States 07/12/2020 07:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What the hell are you talking about? Welders causing explosions is quite common because of upper management ignoring safety precautions for them. Just watch and read all the USCSB videos. Welders getting the ok to go with some douchebag in the company that signs off that everything is safe to work on is the most common of welders getting killed. Welders don't know everything about everything and they rely on others to keep them safe from hazards that they may not know about (Like emptying a tank of flammable material before they do hot work, that the welder has no clue if they did it or not). It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happened here. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 66334755 United States 07/12/2020 07:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oils have a "flash point" which is when whatever vapors are given off (volitility) then are ignited at a certain temperature. That in turn could cause a cascade depending on the flammable materials in the area. I was once in a situation with a buddy and the temperature control was broken and locked on in an oil bath. He bravely and gingerly took it out of the area because it was very close to flash point. Anything might happen then. Hushing a heated fluid so close to flashpoint might be enough to flashover. Oilbaths are used for temperature calibration with NBS traceable thermometers. |

I can hear him now...Orange man bad because ship on fire and he's not moving it. And as to the heart and flowers smilie and why I always usually use it is because of a good and valid reason .One of the first GLP members was a lady named Suzanne who went by the handle tree hugger here and was dearly beloved by most all posters, ACs included. She Always, without exception that I saw, posted the smilie after every post.Anyway while she was in hospice, she decided she wanted her tradition carried on so she started a thread asking for volunteers from members she trusted to do so. Since I knew her so well, she picked me, so in her memory, i've decided to uphold my word even though you and a few others have had issues with it. I could care less so I'll end again with this. |
