Re: "Keto" "Diet"
Our knowledge on nutrition and dieting is not perfect, nothing is, but it’s not primitive or severely lacking.

Keto is a tool. It can work, but it’s not unique aside from the fact that you can eat bacon grease and technically still be on the diet, which I think speaks volumes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78680774

It does. The macro nutrient fat is essential and your body needs it.Replacing the essential nutrient fat with twice as many carbs instead which are SUGAR as soon as they hit your body is not a good plan.

Thank Ancel Keys and his fake study for that.Weve been paying for that ever since.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77888403

You’re not making any sense. Not only are you ignoring the distinctive nature between different food sources of carbs and how they affect blood sugar levels, but you’re implying that someone ever recommended anything but eating a diet with optimal amounts of both macros. Which does not seem to have happened.

The guy that insists that keto is wrong and dangerous really has no clue! I have been on keto for 20 months straight, avoiding carbs religiously and eating butter, cheese, bacon, without counting calories at all, and have never felt healthier - happier , lost at least 150 pounds, fit in clothes I had not been able to use in 20 years prior, can climb a hill that I couldn’t before, cured my metabolic syndrome, cured my fatty liver, cured my high blood pressure. No more cravings, no more constant hunger, sleep like a log,

I lost over 30 pounds. I no longer take Metformin for diabetes. Test results at the doctor's keep improving. I never get tired of pastured steak and eggs. I sleep better, have more positive energy, I only have positive things to say about KETO. I buy butter by the case now.

I also eat avocado, asparagus and broccoli, occasionally.

Any diet that almost, or entirely, eliminates a macronutrient or food group is not one you should probably use long-term. Instead, choose better food options. You don’t have to eat bread or sugary foods, but things oatmeal and potatoes are alternatives.

That said, there’s nothing wrong with bread. Exercise, eat whole foods and find ways to manage stress. No reason to do any of these dramatic and limiting diets that aren’t optimal.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78680774

Carbs are only useful for people with levels of physical activity that are no longer seen in our society. If you are an axe wielder timber cutter then by all means have a carb rich diet. Most people In our modern society can’t use the carbs They intake and they are stored as fat. If you are sedentary, getting very low carbs and high fat works wonders to loose weight and cure type 2 diabetes. That simple.
 Quoting: Red Hot Chilean Pepe

OP,you are spot on.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77888403

carbs are essential for the t-3 thyroid metabolism hormone. The body will use carbs for energy first, it's most efficient. The metabolism slows down with low carb and that's why people stall on low carb and keto, then they try to eat carbs again and gain weight back and blame it on carbs when really they just royally fucked their metabolism by eliminating carbs.

Keto and low carb is the lazy man's diet that doesn't know what a pump feels like. Keto bodies look emaciated, skinnyfat and weak. Just look at Dr. Berg the chiropractor, he probably needs help pushing his shopping cart at the supermarket.d His body temperature is probably very low too and he feels cold to the touch, he's probably always cold that's why we only see him in long sleeves and pants, he's not even close to feeling warm with a slow metabolism. He's like those old ladies you see sitting in cars in the parking lot in the middle of summer wearing winter coats and the heat blasting in the car because the air conditioning in the store is just too cold for them.

All macronutrients are essential but the best balance is 40% carbs 40% protein and 20% fat. With the fat this low it easy to pick and choose only the best fat for consumption.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If if works for you then eat low carb especially for health reasons, overweight people aren't very active to begin with and dropping 200 pounds will make any 400 pound person look and feel better and make those horrible blood labs much better too.

However, calories in calories out is what always works, if you can't control eating a sandwich with 2 slices of white 60 calories each slice bread because you think whole grain 140 a slice is better and you need 2 of those, don't complain about your carbs being the problem because that's just over eating calories, fat ass.

Re: "Keto" "Diet"
Went "Keto" after my Dr. recommended insulin for my Type 2 Diabetes. In 6 months my A1C went from 15 to 5.4, and lost 40 lbs. Dr wanted to do a video interview for a paper because she had never seen this kind of remission. That was 2 years ago. Now, even after changing my diet to a "normal" diet on the weekends, my A1C is still below pre-diabetes levels, and am no longer considered "obese" or chunky (I kept the weight off).

Carbs aren't necessary for survival. Whatever glucose your brain needs to function is easily converted in your liver from consumed protein. The only time you would need to consume carbs is when you are seriously underweight, and not eating enough protein.

About cholesterol... By bad levels went down, and the good levels shot up. There are good cholesterols, mainly found in natural fats and oils like olive oil and animal fats (Butter is full of good cholesterol!). Pre-Keto, my blood work showed my bad levels were horrible - and I was on a "fat-free" diet then. Following the suggested diabetic diet was making my health worse and worse. Dropping it for a single big fatty meal (with fresh veggies) every evening was the best thing I could have ever done for my health.

I am now on no medications (save the occasional ibuprofen for spousal related headaches), and I now only go to my doctor for bragging rights - and she has to call me to tell me I'm overdue.

It's not an easy diet when everyone around you is eating garbage, but with a bit of self-control, it's the best decision anyone who is overweight or diabetic can make. Now, if you are already healthy and/or underweight, it may not be for you. Especially if underweight it could be harmful because there may be thyroid problems in the background.

If you really want to know how to eat in the most healthy manner, just flip the food pyramid upside down (and follow common sense), and you are on the right track.

in my not so humble opinion, you have stumbled across greatness. I have been a believer for 6 years now and I will never turn back. as the benefits start increasing, so does the positive feedback loop. once you start believing in the path, the results increase. no more heartburn. no more headaches. for me, most importantly, no more eczema/psoriasis. took about 6 months to clear.

only drink coffee and water now ... everything is either RO or distilled water. sinus issues gone, unless I cheat and partake briefly, then within 30min-90min I remember what that poison does to a person...it is almost instantaneous

it is amazing how the body tries to cope with the daily consumption of poisons and even lifestyle.

once your body starts healing, exercise is a pleasure instead of a chore with the rush of pleasure far exceeding the pain..completely reversed from when I was eating like shit

and the clarity of thought .... is probably my most favorite benefit ... probably because the other ailments that are now gone are a thing of the past and fading from memory

life kicks ass

Anxiety levels are the lowest they’ve been in 25 years. I honestly feel like a completely new person. I don’t know what the long term effects of living like this will be but I can’t bring myself to go back to a heavy carb lifestyle..I’m pretty sure it was killing me

All the deniers have "motives" This is how humans were designed to eat. We were designed originally to be hunter gatherers. If early man was successful they would eat once a day, or if things were going good maybe twice. Fasting allows the body to clean itself out. Breakfast was sold by Dr Kellogg's and Mr Post and is not the most important meal. Modern diets are SAD. Standard American Diet and it is killing us slowly leading to all the major diseases. I'm going to put this out there and if you dont believe it you can research it or kiss old rusty. Keto diets can cure alzheimers and cancer and with additional protocols and supplements can cure all autoimmune disease. I know about 2 personally because I've done it. Your food is killing you. Wake up and smell the meat and fresh produce. Eliminate processed foods and especially bread and never feel hungry again.

Plenty of people workout and play sports. Some carbs are necessary if you're going to be doing alot of physical activity.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79269411

It is critical that very quickly after a hard workout you ingest about 150 calories of a simple sugar like Agave, honey or maple syrup. If you don't the body will get muscle replacement fuel (carbs) from other, lesser or least used muscle tissue.

Unfortunately the body can, and will, derive carbs from cannibalizing muscle tissue quicker and easier than it can the long biochemical chain process of getting carbs from fats.

Immediately following hard exercise your body is in a life or death panic mode to re-fill those burned out muscles with fuel.

Yes I, I concentrate all my meals in a 8 hour window (breakfast, lunch, and a snack at the en of the 8 hour window) and fast for 16 hours every day. Then once a week I fast for 36 hours straight. I begun to do this about 3 months ago. Mainly because I am never hungry now, so at times I felt I was only eating because of habit. Fasting has improved my quality of live even more. And it makes a lot for your focusing ability, the weekly 36 hours fast is my most productive day of the week, no time spent in cooking / eating.
