When a busy H-E-B lost power, store told Texans gathering supplies to 'go ahead' without paying

“All of the sudden the power goes out, and you hear curse words and people sighing.” Sound familiar? It’s a scene that’s played out in homes across Texas. But this time, it was at the H-E-B Plus on U.S. 183, says Shelby Lasker.

Lasker, who lives in Leander and works in childcare, said she was at the grocery store Tuesday afternoon when the power went out. She was there hoping to get supplies as winter storms wrought havoc in the Austin area.

Awesome gesture and kudos to them. I still think their grocery stores are some of the worst I've ever seen tho. Sorry! It's just that after seing Wegman's in upstate NY or Meijers in the midwest, you get spoiled. HEB just is NOT a good grocery store....good people there tho!

I've been to grocery stores all over the country. Food Lion, Safeway, Jewel, Meijers, Kroger, you name it.

None of them hold a candle to HEB. And none of the people I've lived near hold a candle to Texans. Damn glad I live in this state.

Gives a whole new meaning to

Especially for a San Antonio based company.

Anyway, I'm doubling down and will say again, HEB grocery stores are not very good...but they certainly do appear to be good people!

I loooove my HEB. They have their own shipping too so they damn sure take care of us. I donated to them twice during Harvey and once in the pandemic shelf empty fest we had. They had an 18 wheeler truck outfitted as a kitchen and were very early in the Harvey devastation handing out free hot meals.

H.E. Butt was the founder- some of or one of the sons own the chain

now.

Most Texans like the stores. Well managed. Great customer service.
Very good fresh fruit & veggies.

The Butt family uses it’s wealth to influence Texas & national legislation.

They like OPEN BORDERS, so more immigrants can purchase groceries

using U.S. TAXPAYER$ MONEY !

H.E.B is one of the largest privately owned businesses.
