A rock in good hands killed Goliath. It isn't about the rock. A true warrior fights not because he hates the one in front of him, but because he loves those behind him. INTP-A |

Spent most of my life in Marseille as a trauma surgeon and became an US citizen in 1997. Now live in SE Ohio. Congrats! Were you at Brazzaville in the early '60s by any chance? No, safely in France by the early 50s. My most dangerous time was a brief visit to Vietnam during the 2nd Indo-China war around 1956. As part of my last year of medical school we were sent to help out and get experience. We didn't have MASH type tents, it was a real hospital but I was introduced to that kind of surgery and it convinced me that this was what I wanted to do. Marseille is the roughest city in France, always a lot of trauma situations. My father was from Marseille. Last Edited by Doctor Congo on 06/18/2021 03:39 PM |

My biggest claim to fame by far was when I was around 10-12 years old. My home town became the capitol of the Free French, but there were a lot of German spies in town. The Germans owned the Cameroon until after WW1 but there were still a lot of German families and estates up there, not far from French Congo. Me and bunch of other kids were used as couriers to get messages between the various embassies etc. We knew all the shortcuts and places that only a kid would fit so we would be given a message and told where to go and who to give the message to. It was extremely fun and adventurous as you would imagine. There were a lot of Americans in the city at that time, and I learned English at a very young age from my friends. The younger you are the easier it is to learn a language. That came in handy because some of my medical school classes were in English. |

Sounds like an ideal pastime for a young boy, a pure fantasy come to life. Unless and until you were to be caught at it. |

I loved going to medical symposiums, easy way to have a vacation. Been to Chicago a couple times, once I took the Amtrak from Chicago to Los Angeles. Getting your own room isn't very expensive. Another minor claim to fame was that I had breakfast with Daryl Hanna because we were the only ones that were eating that early in the morning. This was somewhere in the '80s, she was wearing a frumpy shirt, grey sweat pants and no make up, LOOKED GREAT. That was it, just breakfast. ------------------------------------ Thanks for the PIN |

I thought The Old Timer was the only 90+ year old on here. You could be my dad, I'll be 67 in a few months. So when you think back to when you were in your late 60's, did you think you were going to live to be in your 90's or did you think you were getting old at that time? https://imgur.com/naftUR5 https://imgur.com/cYDIjmm https://imgur.com/RpKOp6R |

That's a big moment in life, the oldest person you know is you. But I have a girlfriend now, she's 93 but she is an athlete, does the senior olympics type thing. She is living with her granddaughter about a mile away, and I have been doing morning walks with her, and we have been dating for about a year. She is here now and will spending the weekend. She is a Christian lady so we are just seeing how we do when we spend a lot of time together. She is about 5' 4", thin and has very red hair, and she needs a GLP name. |

Older people are the BEST ... Romans 14:11 It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God. Revelation 20:15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. |

I wanted more freedom and a lot more space. I was tired of living in a giant noisy city and I was retiring. SE Ohio has the warmest winters without all the garden bugs you get further south. Land is cheap here, it was just a thousand an acre, I have many acres and am mostly off grid, still tied for emergencies. One of my sons became an US citizen way before I did so I visited his home in Columbus OH many times. Got used to space and freedom. Columbus has good seafood luckily, I would have missed that. |
