Oh, and black cohosh did nothing for me. And if you smoke, you will not be able to get estrogen type script from doc - causes cancer, mine told me.

Hi ladies,

I tried something different all together, and to my amazement it’s actually freaking working.

But it’s torture….take Cold showers!
I of course got the idea from a thread on GLP.
I tried it, I suffer through it, and I literally have not had a hot flash or night sweats since. It’s been at least a month now. I feel AMAZING!

You don’t have to freeze the entire shower. Alternating btwn hot/warm and cold. I can only take hot showers. When I get my hair washed, it has to be hot, so yea this is extremely torturous to me. The video says to do 15 seconds, but that’s impossible for me. I’m probably at 4 secs extremely cold, but I’m getting surprisingly better with coldish. Even with the 4 secs intervals, the effect is working.

To me, as much as I LOVE my hot water, this torture is TOTALLY worth it.
I’m sleeping like a baby, not to mention I’m mellow and calm throughout the day.

I have not tried anything else, just cold showers.

Subject change from all this bs world issues….

Hello female overy born genders….(lol)

Yay to finally reaching my one year without my “friend”.
Nay to the night sweats that have been keeping me up all night.
Nay to the short term memory loss.
Nay to my recent through the roof high cholesterol.
Nay to the recent dark circles around my eyes.
Yay for not having any “dry” issues. Wink

The night sweats and not sleeping is killing me! I guess that’s where the “crankiness” comes in.

I would love to hear what everyone else is doing.. what is working, what doesn’t, and of course what natural remedies I can use in lieu of hormonal therapy.

What does my glp family have for me?

How’s that for a subject change? :)

How about if you just stop worrying about your own little problems, and do something for somebody else? The distraction might surprise you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82705606

I actually do everything I can for anyone at any given moment, so um, what’s your beef with me asking?
 Quoting: 10822R88

No. When Wimmin speak of "doing things" it just means they talk about it, then get somebody else to "do" something.

Nice video, thanks! Might give this a try. My AC is not working so it shouldn't be too hard. Glad to hear of your positive results!

Great suggestion, the cold shower.
Splashing your face with cold water and having a cool water mister is important too. Not only does it cool you down, it helps keep your pores refined giving you firmer younger looking tighter skin and helps reduce wrinkles. Hot flashes and sweating all the time does a number on your pores adding to the signs of aging.

Alcohol on the skin a few times a day also helps shrink the pores, I mean the 100 proof kind, but you might smell like a lush and be tempted to indulge a bit more often. Rubbing alcohol irritates my skin but not the hard booze, it is like a face lift in a bottle LOL.

Man question here....so does menopause increase or decrease a womans sexual drive?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80335762

Who cares, not everything men ask has to be about sex. This is about menopause.

Not what stages of a woman's development men can exploit, and benefit from at her expense.

By the time menopause comes we are sick of that game.

My skin has been looking amazing. Lol, I had a woman ask me what I was using for my face. She said I have been looking younger and wants to know my secret.
Defitiely cold water! My deep line in btwn my eyebrows is literally almost gone, as well as my dark under eyes. It is summer, so I suppose it could be the sun, but Im definitely not stopping the cold showers. I can’t wait to do this in the winter. Brrrrrrrrrrr. That’s gonna suck!

There is a homeopathic remedy called Lachesis mutus, which you can buy at Whole Foods, or Sprouts, or GNC, or anywhere else you can buy homeopathic.

Get the 12c potency or 30c potency (if you're really sensitive, use the 12c potency) and whenever you feel a hot flash come on, dissolve 3-4 pellets on your tongue.)

It works for the hot flashes as well as the moodiness. (I use it myself for both. Lol.)

Interesting. I am going to take notice if they are triggered by a chill or cold feet. 15 years after the change and I still get bouts that come in waves from time to time not knowing what triggers it.

I am so thankful for our aging advice threads over the years. I have learned so much and put a lot of the tips into daily practice with wonderful results.

Some of the tips I was skeptical of and eventually started using them, regretting I did not start sooner.

Thank you all for contributing useful information. hugs

Re: Fellow GLP women…..menopause - hormones discussion
It's hard to wrap your head around the radical changes, no one ever gives us the menopause talk, but we get the period talk.

3 biggest things for me are: mental/emotional changes, body shape changes, and body chemistry changes.

Fortunately I've mostly gotten a handle on the first.

The body chemistry changes for me meant my formerly robust sex drive has tanked hard. TMI WARNING: The intensity of the sensation has dulled as well. What a cruel thing, for orgasms to go from "fireworks " to "well that felt ok but a back rub does too and feels about the same " . I'll get a good one every once in a while but overall the intensity is definitely not what it once was. And yes I've tried all the methods. Also tried several supplements... nope. HRT... didn't work. Just have some wine, they say... weed.. ? no and no.

I still am intimate with my wonderful husband because part of my love for him is meeting his needs, and guys need sex. I also love the act of physical bonding even though it's not as intense for me as it once was. It's still awesome but in different ways.

Body shape changes...

I remember being in my 30s and seeing women over 45, marveling how they could all have let themselves go. That won't be me, I'd say to myself. Look at the fat stomachs!

Surprise, you can be healthy and not change your good habits and still get the menopause middle! I was horrified to now be in the shape of a potato. Just diet, right? I fought to lose 10lbs and that middle part didn't budge an inch. The thing is, the menopause middle appeared overnight, and I didn't gain any weight but my body had apparently rearranged itself. It's a serious mind fuck.

I was explaining how distraught I was to my husband and he said, it's a natural aging process, he is getting old too and he's grateful we're doing it together. He also told me the best thing ever: "I am in love with a person, not a body" That statement made me feel SO much better!

Husbands if you're reading this I hope you're paying attention, especially the last part!

Anyway I hope my ramblings help someone.

Re: Fellow GLP women…..menopause - hormones discussion
Fact is after reproductive years are over, sex is just not that important for most women . This is why you see many couples in retirement at around age 60/65 get divorced. They think if sex is gone, marriage is over. Your sex life is just a small percentage of your life as a married couple so don’t confuse sex with love. Lesson: marry some you really enjoy being with, not just some hot chick. My wife and I are old now and sex is occasional but tbh, we both spend more time together every day now than we ever did when we were younger and more sexually active. And we are having the best time ever because, well, life has been good to us. Kids are grown, we have lots of free time and we both enjoy similar hobbies. Aging with the mother of your children and the woman you love is the greatest. And we are both in a race to see who can go completely gray first!
