I am homeless now. | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83138558 United States 05/08/2022 08:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's okay at first, the reality is that way of life is hard it's highly unpredictable and it's fkn dangerous, things can go from bad to deadly at any moment. Quoting: Anonymous 2 cents 43928709 Don't become isolated parking in remote areas or even to far from other people. The further your away that's where the violent psychos will be and they will see you before you see them. Stay away from rivers, abandoned buildings, dilapidated environments, under bridges, tunnels etc. DON'T stay in one place for too long. Be VERY wary of other (friendly) homeless types offering (beer dope whores etc) Keep feet dry & be as hygienic as possible, stay rested and alert, keep your body health up. Try and get another place to live. This guy gives good advice. Men rape men on the streets, think they don't till you've got a gun to your head or a knife to your neck. You'll see the animal in man if your out there long enough. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83154355 United States 05/08/2022 08:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In shelters, you are concentrated with individuals who should probably be either in drug rehab or a mental institution. Not only do you have to worry about assault, or even rape, but you won't be able to map things on a logical scale. People might attack because the little voices told them you were a demon, and had to be stopped for the good of humanity. Or they might just think you look like the guy that raped them the month before. Most hopeless will refuse to stay in such places, because they are far more dangerous than being on the street, alone is. Also, they don't let you sleep. You have to leave early in the morning, not come back until evening and meet curfew, so night jobs are out. You have to be subjected to room inspections. When you're not there, the staff goes through your stuff, and anything they want/like/valuable disappears. They force you to show your paycheck and keep a HIGH percentage "for rent". This is stealing. It's a shelter. It's paid via donations and/or through the state. It's for the homeless person to get back on their feet. How are you supposed to do that when they pocket over 50% of what you earn? Not to mention diseases, lice, bed bugs and now sleeping on a cot, next to a vaxxed?! You're better off outside. And on and on... |

Quoting: pish Had a van, with a bed in back. Did laundry at laundromat, gym membership for a shower, and just ate cheap rotisserie chicken you find at supermarkets with a salad. Only downside is toilet issues...so if you can deal with that...you are golden to live the vanlife. Toilets are everywhere. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 83115986 United Kingdom 05/08/2022 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But its all good. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83146290 Got a truck with a mattress, storage unit, 24 hour gym membership and portable propane cook top. Actually I feel more free than ever. AMA You need to get off of GLP and urgently get a roof over your head. You can do it... IF YOU WANT. Remember these words. I'm being kicked to the kerb officially next week. Should be rehoused, but made a plan b just in case. Sleep in the day in parks, use train stations for toilet and ride the night buses (some have usb ports to charge phone and power bank). I'm most worried about being placed in temporary accommodation with druggies/nutters. If that happens, it may come down to a choice between keeping a roof over my head and making myself 'intentionally homeless' for the sake of safety. The prospect of freedom from a long since loveless relationship makes the streets seem preferable to remaining in comfortable but abusive surroundings. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80267545 United States 05/08/2022 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was homeless for five years. In hindsight it was one of the best experiences of my life. Physically challenging like boot camp, I got lean and tough and realized most Americans would wilt in a real SHTF situation due to our addiction to comfort. Spiritually is was extremely cathardic and I totally rid my soul of materialism. Under the peaceful umbrella of night stars I felt totally free and part of the universe for the very first time. I can read people like a book in less than a second because many times you will come across groups of strangers and you learn to read them fast. It becomes instinctive. Living in a truck? thats the easy life bro. Get dropped off on the street with the cloths on your back and your wits to get the full experience. What I thought would be a horror from all the stereotypes turned out to be a great experience. Now I have a great place to live but will never return to the borg collective any time soon. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76914159 Luxembourg 05/08/2022 09:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was homeless once for two months... my advice is avoid shelters at all cost. buy a yearly lounge pass to a top three airline at an airport near you(free showers/food daily) Study/Learn to play all casino games, only start betting once you know the game your playing, don't drink or use drugs ever while playing and you can live off the proceeds like most professional gamblers do! Quoting: Adjudicator :Radicals77: :truthbomb: :bumpity: I've been sports betting for several years. I clear $1-2k in profit every month. I'm not a shark or pro..just follow trends and do some light studying prior to games. I do not bet large amounts. If I did, I can likely profit more (or lose more). But I have a system and it works. Helps me to supplement my income $10-15k per year. Would be hard to do this living in my truck though. |

You have taken a wrong turn. I suggest you make a sincere prayer from your heart for the truth to be revealed and for the assistance of heaven to get into a safer situation. |

You are living the van life. This makes it look like you were doing it 100% voluntary because you want the freedom of movement and less obligations. It removes a lot of the society stigma and allows you easier access to social and work chances. Good luck. Stay away from drugs alcohol and other expensive habits. Plenty of people have chosen to live the van life for a period of time and been able to get back into a house sometimes they can even use this to save up a lot of money so they could buy a house. |
