The "United States of America" is a pseudo-nation that is actually a confederation of independent States bound together under a common document called the US Constitution.

There is no actual Federal Government it is something the States created to handle affairs that are above the States level like having a military and printing money. The States created the Federal Government not the other way.

The Federal Government was never meant to have enough power to tell the States what to do with the exception that States laws can not preempt Constitutional law.

Most of what the Federal Government does is in fact illegitimate.

America isn't a nation, it's an abbreviation of North America which is a continent. The nation we both live in is called the United States.

OP, if you are going to use historical sources for your view that the name is "The United States of North America" Try not to use a derivative source from another country. Try using the original source that YOUR above source cites:

As you can see, from the very inception of the revolt, the people involved used a phrase that set the foundation for the final name of this country to be set later in the Constitution.

On top of that, no matter what any other source or person used for naming the country, the final name was defined upon the signing of the Constitution, as it is clearly set forth in the preamble of the Constitution.

If there is no continent known as "America" then no country can be a part of it. It's an abbreviation for "North America". Mexicans can refer to themselves as North American or they can abbreviate it to American if they want.

If it had been named the British Extension in the document, that would be it's name.
