It's certainly "anomalous" - the story about "repairs" and "something went wrong" is kind of sketchy.

The closures are not being listed and updated on the official websites leading to complaints from disappointed tourists.




Here's a comment from a woman named Kelly Sibley Ready on the Hoover Dam FB page from 23 hours ago complaining that the Dam was closed and the FB page was not updated:

"You should think about updating this information. This was one stop on our vacation & 1600 miles later we were turned around at the entrance! Very disappointed that you can share an update regarding students visiting but not closure updates!"

and then, it will never rain again, so it' useless. Droughts, once they start, they never go away. useless.

Exactly - especially "unscheduled" repairs, even considering the extreme drought conditions and near-dead-pool status of the reservoir.

Best guess - DHS does no t want the public to be able to calculate when Hoover Dam will no longer generate electricity. They want the surprise blackout.
