First molecular detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus in cockroaches

Detection of SARS-CoV-2 by the RT-qPCR assay was considered from a total of 500 cockroaches (250 B. germanica, 250 P. americana) (Table 1). The presence of the virus was confirmed using external body samples and gastrointestinal tract samples.

Samples from 2 locations were positive, 50% of tested B. germanica from Dastgheyb Dormitory and 70% of tested P. americana from Ali-Asghar Hospital.

Most of the day has been drizzle and temperature hovering at 33-34.

Sadly it's turning to snow as I type this...fingers crossed it peters out without piling up much. We've been lucky that every storm has more or less skirted us but one, a ten incher about a week and a half ago.

The worst was supposed to be in a band, so maybe you're ok. It's hard to tell sometimes on the apps I have. I need to get a better one. I lost all my good ones a couple of phones ago. Just never replaced them. Our wind storm doesn't seem all that big a deal, either. Maybe we're more protected in town than I thought, though.

We never really had winter, either, just that awful cold over Christmas. Not so sure we're going to see it this year. I'm not celebrating just yet, though. Winter isn't over just yet.

Not usually, too far east, but we can get some residual haze at times.

They are an experience! I hate them and then, throw in the giant, engine killer flying tumbleweeds that you can't usually see. A friend of ours had a tumbleweed pierce his truck's radiator while he was driving on the highway.

Tumbleweeds lost their cuteness being redesigned as spray painted snowmen or "West Texas" Christmas trees after the first year!

That darn dust is as fine as the spray from fire extinguishers and just as hard to clean up! Thanks New Mexico.

How dumb is America?
