I have spent a lot of time in St. George over the years, doing contracts for a large company based there. Incredibly gorgeous town. Streets so clean you could eat off of them, even in the “bad area” (about 4 square blocks on the west side). Flying into the old airport on the Mesa was a blast!

Massive growth in the last ten years, only an easy two hour drive to Vegas, and much cooler.
 Quoting: Flying Elvii

How is St George “much cooler” than Vegas? It’s 110 there today. It’s like you people haven’t actually been to these places or just don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

And Salt Lake is a total shit hole with homeless everywhere and garbage all over the streets. The reason St George is reasonably clean is the fact that it’s a tourist town. There’s very little industry/work there and it’s like living in a fucking oven in the summer.

200,000 California peeps have moved here. That's why homes are now $600,000. Rent is $2,500 a month.

Utah is California prices now.

You missed the opportunity. 8 years ago? You could have bought three homes

Yep, it's too late. I hesitated and missed out.

Anyone here live in Utah? I just want you to know how much your state impressed me and gave me hope for this country. It felt like a political and social oasis to me compared to the sea of corruption and over regulation that CA has become..from the top down.

I do.

Downtown salt lake is full of homeless. Blm, rainbow flags everywhere. Hardly any acknowledgement of July 4.

Mass immigration continues to grow, Biden’s diversified neighborhoods becoming more and more apparent. Nothing against black people but they don’t ‘build it’ when they come.

See out of state plates every single day, majority being California. And, they drive fast and aggressively.

I was just in a Walmart and the ammo was indeed in a locked glass cabinet. Gone are the days of buying a firearm from them. The news channels censor everything and just parrot the controlled narrative.

It is a wonderful state but fast turning. It’s a blue state pretending to be Red.

Perhaps you were south or perhaps north. Much, much better. The LDS church which essentially runs the state, has sold out to the globalists.

I’m really happy that you had a great time but all is not as it seems.

Re: Just returned from a two day visit to Utah…
Just a few notables between Utah and Ca.
The people there..meaning complete strangers at various businesses were ALWAYS genuine and warm toward us. We felt like family no matter where we went.
The Walmart there had a sign that said “ mothers room” directing busy and nursing mothers to a room just for them. It did not say “birthing persons” room.
We didn’t see even ONE graffiti sign or one single homeless person. The roads were all in great shape and well cared for..as did all the infrastructure. And we were the majority. Not the minority. What California refers to as “minorities?”
We saw just a few at most. I had completely forgotten what that felt like. My husband was often referred to as “Sir” and most everyone we saw smiled at us and were polite with good manners. Even the younger adults! It was quite an experience.
Oh! And the local news..had “top stories” of storms and noise ordinance
Complaints on vehicles with loud exhausts, like motorcycles. No stories of murders, rapes, robberies etc. Gun stores advertising sales on ammo and Walmart had both ammo and shotguns for sale! And when I say ammo..I’m not talking about ammo locked behind a plexiglass cabinet in cases. I’m talking about boxes of open ammo sitting on easily accessible shelves.
It was like going back in time about 50 years. Almost surreal. No exaggeration.

I will 100% back your observations. St George is the fastest growing city in the state right now, someone said in the whole country. And it's declining rapidly. I was in the Ogden/SLC area last winter and was floored by how horrible it's become. 20 years ago it was great, like Boise. Now they're all ruined

I moved away from California.

The wages are not higher there.

I moved to a small city in Minnesota and the minimum wage is $9 or so.

But everyone is making $17+

In California the Minimum wage was $15 when I left and that's what the Majority of places paid.

Absolutely beautiful state. I Tried to find so much as a cigarette butt on the street in Salt Lake, but nope...there was no garbage anywhere. As you said, no graffiti. No homeless. No weird vagrant types. I felt like I was in the 1970s of my youth. The politeness of people in public spaces was unreal.

I do not know much about the Mormon faith but whatever it's about, there's one thing for sure: It creates a society of public respect, competence, and functionality. Wish more places were like that...kinda dreamy, actually.
 Quoting: BarbaricYawpSounder

You must have been to Salt Lake a good while ago, because it is now overrun with hobos all over the place. And gangs and gang graffiti are also common. Probably some cali scum ruining it for the rest of the world, again.

Its all pretty innocuous unless you are near one of the polygamist splinter groups. They do focus on individual agency, being prepared and family, and it does tend to show up in the kids being decent, honest people. A little naive perhaps. But as with everything, individual results can vary.

I live in a pretty LDS saturated area (not Utah) and my kids only stay straight and narrow because they were surrounded by LDS kids. Non-Utah mormons tend to be a little more laid back and a little less holier than thou towards non-LDS... you can do way worse than being surrounded by LDS as clan...

I'm in Southern Utah...non-mormon.

I have found that it's hard to put the Mo's into much of a box as they differ, quite drastically in some cases, based on what region of Utah they are in.

Small towns can be very indoctrinated and some steer toward a militant far right political slant.

The bigger cities have been watered down with transplants.

But I definitely agree about the Poligs and the bubble they maintain.

And I have experienced some exclusion from certain types once they realize I'm not coming to join them...but it would be much worse in a smaller town without a college and the transplants that attracts.

It's sad because about 10-12 years ago salt lake had a really good program that was getting tons of people off the street and into houses but then it unfortunately stopped. Bad homeless problem in SLC now.

Small towns in Utah are a lot better than SLC. A lot of amazing beauty too.

We don't have any more room in southern Utah. We are out of water, our houses are over half a million, our traffic is resembling socal, and you are bringing you politics with you and it shows in SLC. Please, come visit to spend your money here but don't live here. You Californians have done enough damage and your rude behaviors are getting on our last nerves.

Please scroll back to see my response about this and who we (my husband and I) are.
That said..point taken regarding your feelings about Californians. Tbh..we were hesitant to tell folks where we were visiting from. But when we did..we received kind and even interested responses and questions and we were still made to feel welcome in St. George. I also have researched the differences in water management between AZ and UT. And from what I’ve learned..UT is managing their water more wisely and being more conservative with this precious resource. No offense to anyone reading from AZ. You can’t help what your state official do anymore than I can here in CA.
