Re: Great Pyrenees kills 8 COYOTES while protecting his sheep
well, not all pyrenes are great - as I learned from personal experience with one of my own that I got along with a Beglin sheep dog (as pupps) on the same day ... they were wonderful companions until the sheep dog started attacking my goats ... and the pyrenes just watched

after several similar incidents (when I left the property),it was clear that the shepherd, could not be trusted on a farm, I didn't want him to live on a chain and found a good home for him in the subburbs ... but as it turns out - that extrodinarly beautiful dog was "a natural born killer" according to a dog-shrink his new owners took him to ... and they had him put down because that was what the vet advised ... he wanted to kill their female Belgin sheep dog - in the house right in front of them !

the pyrene, watched her companion leave and was heart broken, and stood in the middle of the front yard and howled for three days non stop ... then she managed to get out of our gated property, while i was feeding my livestock - I found her an hour later dead on the hi way, where she had last seen her friend ... they were both dead - at nine months old

up until "puberty" these thoroughly bred "guardian" dog, were great to me - they stayed outdoors all day, but slept indoors at night, so they were well trained - well fed, groomed and well loved beautiful, healthy, big working dogs - that became a heart-breaking nightmare.

now for the happy ending:

three months later, my grand daughter gifted me with a chocolate cheuwawa ... best little farm-dog ever for the past 12 years !

Farming is full of heartbreak, that's why people don't. I think most could handle the work.livestock gardians are not your typical family dog, some can be but more at home in the field.my best farm dog is a red Merle Australian shepherd...

The Great Pyrenees.

A real and true sheep dog.

That's what they're bred for.

And that's what they do.

Casper don't play.

I’m in Georgia, and a friend of a friend knows this guy. I do not. But it is a true story for sure. Happened a few weeks ago I believe.

so if he killed that many i would assume he went for the pack leader, the alpha wolf.
once the leader is dead, the rest are easier to take out.

I have a Great Pyrenees, and they will protect their flock. However, they are the gentlest dog around their owners and family and are good with cats. "Frosty The Snow Dog" is magnificant.
 Quoting: La Listener

Yes they seem to be. I had never interacted with one till I met my neighbors dog.
I was walking our new property to see what the fence situation was when his two dogs came to the fence. They were barking their heads off but wagging their tails. I was confused. I took a chance and put my arm in the fence and one stuck his head and body under my hand so I could pet him.
They were friendly to me. But I was not on their side of the fence either.
Turns out they were warning MY dog to stay away as they had ponies and alpacas to protect. They instinctually knew I wasn't a threat.
I love my neighbors dogs. And they are beautiful critters

Re: Great Pyrenees kills 8 COYOTES while protecting his sheep
Man buys small flock of sheep to satisfy his controlling nature. Sheep draw in predators (man made siuation). Man buys dog to fight predators (vs alarms or other means of controlling predators. Man gets his wish and dog attacks predators. Man is happy he created viscious cycle. Man in compelled to tell his story of creation. Fellow man sympathizes for dog, congratulates man.

Let's look at who benefits from the cycle and who is negatively affected.

Benefits:
Dog/sheep owner
News websites with click thru ads
This website for hosting these vid links and discussions
Dog breeders

Negative effects:
Dog is injured
Animals drawn to food are killed
Sheep are terrified of living in a backyard prison
Coyotes further get a bad rap

Caucasians are always "so concerned" about animals because they SLEEP WITH ANIMALS all the time and just don't talk about it. They show the same concern for animals that normal humans show for other humans. That's how you know where their allegiences and sexuality lie, since these emotional ties are ONLY CREATED through sexual intercourse (think of a man who's fallen in love, etc. that's how Caucasians react to animals like dogs who descend from wolves and why this poster is so upset)

Maybe the owner could help out next time by buying a gun & killing a few. Works amazing & is more effective than rocks. The dog must’ve been hoping for some lethal backup the whole time.

This story made the top-of-the-hour ABC radio news just now.

34 hours after it was reported on GLP. Of course, Hairy found it on Channel 13 dot com before that.

I really don't care for Richard Cantu, the ABC News newsreader.

It certainly is quick to find a way inject race into the picture. Force of habit, I suppose.
