So 100 that went to 100 in sales so there's 200 gone the moment the bill left the register 300 total loss

If you have one bucket that holds 2 gallons and another bucket that holds 5 gallons, how many buckets do you have?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8289068

The idjits will argue that since the buckets are of unequal size, you can't say that it's two buckets.

$100 because the store ended up not losing that $100 bill. It would be $200 only if it was spent at another store.
 Quoting: StayCurious

Then how would the original store loose the $70 in goods and $30 in change to equal $200?

blink
 Quoting: Remedial_Rebel

I was thinking that the store loses the $70 in goods and the $30 in change, which equals $100 in total. But this would only work if you count the $100 as not being stolen. If you believe the $100 was a loss, then it would be $200 total. But I don't count the $100 as a loss because it was spent at the same store.

I could be wrong. Someone correct me if I am.

Re: POLL: MAN STEALS $100 FROM a STORE'S REGISTER. THEN HE BUYS $70 OF GOODS FROM THAT STORE & GETS $30 CHANGE. HOW MUCH DID THE STORE LOSE?
Here's a trickier accounting problem. The error is made in the 2nd to last sentence.

Three guests check into a hotel room. The manager says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the manager realizes the bill should only have been $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 as five one-dollar bills to return to the guests.

On the way to the guests' room to refund the money, the bellhop realizes that he cannot equally divide the five one-dollar bills among the three guests. As the guests are not aware of the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 back and keep $2 as a tip for himself, and proceeds to do so.

As each guest got $1 back, each guest only paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop kept $2, which when added to the $27, comes to $29. So if the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?
 Quoting: Anonymous How4rd

There is no missing dollar.

Guests paid a total of $27. Hotel took $25. Bellhop took $2.

The $29 came from mistakenly adding $2 to the $27 instead of subtracting it.

He stole 100 dollars - the profit the store made on the goods he bought. Probably close to 80 dollars or so.

Profit is another word for legalized theft, charging more for something than it is worth, so by charging more for something than it is worth, the store is stealing from its customers who accept this as their reality. Very few businesses in America operate on any other principal.

Read it and weep, capitalists.

OMG!

Try this.

The guy walks in and steals a $100 bill from the till.
10 seconds later her hands it back to the owner.
(How much has the store lost at this point? Answer = $0)

He then bags $70 worth of merch. and takes $30 cash out of the till and leaves with the merch and cash.

How much has the store lost at this point? Answer = $70+$30 = $100.
Unnerstan?

.

Another way:
Guy walks in possessing $0.
Guy walks out possessing $70+$30 = $100.
Store lost $100.

I am shocked people are incapable of applying simple logic... But I shoulda' known better.

Have fun.

"For the purpose of this poll, profit margins and other side / fringe related expenses are not taken into consideration."

Which means the thief left with $100.

LOL, the "$100" wasn't "spent"!

The original $100 dollar bill that thief took was then used to purchase his $70 of product. The fact that the thief "spent it at the same store" doesn't matter, he stole it in the first place! It was the store's money in the first place!
