I just stopped buying things like xbox games and started buying this like water filters =P I have done my best not to let it become and obsession. I think of it more like a 401k plan. I can tell you i feel much much more confident in life having started to do this stuff. you gotta start somewhere bro. even a little bit of preparation puts you way ahead of the other sheep out there. you just start to think differently. i dont let the fuel in my car go to empty, i make sure my weapons are loaded and clean, i notice when other people are concealed carrying, i buy food in bulk and cook a lot more instead of packing my freezer with microwave meals. feelsgoodman.jpg |

They handle alot of resp infections, throat, ear, etc. You would have to look into them to see if they are broad enough to work on gunshot or wounds, I would think the penicillin would be but I am not sure. |

If it smells alcoholic, astringent like. You found it. Crush up and rub to disinfect wound / can keep on wound/ also has effect To clot blood very quickly. It's everywhere!!! What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. 4. At one year out from its manufacture date, the typical antibiotic (and many other drugs) kept in a cool, dry, dark place lose 10% of their potency thus are about 90% potent as their manufacture date. 2 years out they are down to about 50% of their potency, in less than 4 years they are are down to about 10% of their potency with a high potential to even be toxic with other chemical reactions slowly taking place inside each pill/capsule. Antibiotics and other drugs are MORE potent during their early selling period. The manufacturer computes their effectiveness lower than they actually are, thus they are able to sell the drug longer, this is to cover the losses due to sitting on the self before sales. Your best defense is a tetanus shot and keeping it updated. This will take care of one of the biggest infection from injury type killers in a post civilization world. Second to that is sepsis. The best 'cure' is prevention. Learn how to clean wounds, learn how to dress wounds properly, learn how to use alcohol to clean a wound. Peroxide and medicinal alcohol have a shelf life of just three years. UNLESS they are in dark brown glass bottles. Then you can get another 2 years of useful shelf life, as long as they are kept in a cool, dry, cool place. Your medicine cabinet is the worst place to keep medicines, including peroxide and alcohol. Showering changes the heat in the room a lot. If you have a pantry that is in a stable temperature area of the house, there is where you keep your meds. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1331439 United States 09/07/2011 03:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am lucky to have an aware doctor who wrote me prescriptions for a variety of antibiotics and painkillers (also muscle relaxers). If you find the right doctor and buy generic, it's not very expensive to get a relatively well-stocked medicine arsenal ready. One thing to be aware of for Cipro- it can cause tendons to rupture. Google it. Be very careful when taking it. People have been crippled from it. From what I understand it's primarily given for urinary tract infections. Regular ampicillin is for lung or skin infections. My doctor said for lung infections he recommends nebulizing colloidal silver. Another thing that seems to work really well on lung infections is that Cepocol mouthwash, inhale the vapors from heating it on the stove. That can help knock out bronchitis fast. Hydrogen peroxide is very helpful for many things, and most people are iodine deficient, so you should check into that, too. Lack of iodine can make you more susceptible to other infections and diseases, including cancer. I use Lugol's solution. Some people like to use kelp or other sea vegetables. I also eat a lot of miso soup, which is high in iodine. It's good that you are thinking ahead. I hurt my back the other day and had a muscle relaxer and a tylenol 4 on hand so I did not have to go to the doctor and since i got relief right away and a good night's sleep, I was better the next day. It really does pay off to have this stuff handy. When I get a bad cut, I sometimes take an antibiotic along with scrubbing it out well, so no infection gets started. Good luck! |

I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst =( also, you never know what can happen. trip and fall on some rebar and.... shit now i need to figure out how to get tetanus shots! I used homeopathic tablets instead of a tetanus shot once...it worked...'ledum' homeopathic is a good first line of attack...if that doesn't work: antibiotics |

I know this inst entirely true, as i have used out of date antibiotic mast rings in microbiological cultures and saw no distinct different in efficacy. You are right about tetracyclines becoming toxic with storage though, i cant remember what chemical it breaks down into, but it causes kidney and liver problems. Certain antibiotics can be stored in the fridge/cool room for maybe 5 even 10 years and only marginally lose strength. I agree that prevention is the optimal solution, people are worrying about stocking up on filters and crap, what they need to do is learn how to make charcoal and build a filter from scratch, or learn how to brew and distil alcohol. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1537088 United Kingdom 09/07/2011 05:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have given some thought to this subject myself...my concern is pain meds, if my fish do get shot what now? How can you treat a wound if your fish is flopping around on the ground like a .....um....fish out of water!?!? I've wondered if heroin would be a viable solution. I've never tried anything that hard and don't know where I would even get it but its my understanding that morphine and oxy cotton are extracted from the same plants as heroin Quoting: samwise gamgee Can you buy codeine over the counter? 100mg of codeine will take care of all but the strongest pain. ( breaks down in your body 1/10 morphine - eq 10-15mg or morphine )If you need more pain relief than that you probably have broken bones, a gunshot wound, sepsis, very bad toothache, or internal injuries. Taking any more than 100mg is getting dangerous, and at that point you would need stronger opiates like pure morphine or heroin. You cant buy in in amounts that high though, it is normally sold in 10mg 15mg 30mg mixed with acetaminophen etc. However codeine has a higher solubility in water than acetaminophen so you can remove the acetaminophen from the tablets and just extract the codeine using coffee filters and a fridge. There are processes on the web which will tell you how to do this and how it works, google - cold water extraction codeine. Be forewarned though, codeine is probably a scheduled drug in its purer form, if you purify it in this way, and this advice is only a last resort. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1537088 United Kingdom 09/07/2011 05:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Some more sound advice is sewing wounds. Open ones are a fantastic way to get an infection. Bananas are an excellent way to practice, sewing bananas is just like sewing people, but there is technique involved though, sewing too tight or with poor skills could lead to tissue death. If somebody severs an artery post SHTF, there isnt a lot that can be done, tourniquet, bonesaw, sewing a flap over the amp site and lots of antibiotics post care and painkillers. Thats pretty much on the limit of post industrial medicine right there. Pretty much fucked really unless you have founded a settlement that has half a dozen medical staff. |

Pain: The branches of poplar and willow trees,(the small bendable ones, not large ones) can be peeled to reveal the light wood inside. That light wood has ASA which is what aspirin is made of. You would chew on the branch, do not swallow the wood as you could splinter your intestines, but suck the "juice". Antibiotic (penicillin) Cantaloupe and salami left to sit and go bad will get a blue-green mold on them, if you scrape that mold off, it is penicillin. Other foods can also create it, but cantaloupe and salami ONLY produce that type of mold. There is no info on how much to take, but to make a poultice out of it for wounds, and also to seep it in hot water to make a tea. |
