Does anyone in that area know the factual current situation? If so, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being ignition is imminent), what would you rate this at it's current condition?

Largest Earthquake in Louisiana
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3616

Well that seems perfectly normal...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14779720

Rather than the occasional small fly earthquakes landing on the Mississippi Valley wall, folks should be watching its bigger geodetic picture: historically due Mega Thrust earthquake from its infamous "Reelfoot Rift" having seriously disrupted what are now U.S. states from the Gulf of Mexico to Washington, D.C. A detailed - extremely applicable to this messagethread - report and cross-section information image was found, here ( below ):

[link to www.hmdb.org]

I think the folks here are on-to some groundbreaking Earth Event, which when solid rock sheering begins to occur from a 'small earthquake' large flint like sparks will be enough of a detonator to set-off a massive underground explosion that will make nuclear fracturing look like sticking an ice pick into a densely packed MHD accoustic harmonic airborne tactical weapon system capable of shattering concrete like a sledge hammer on saltine crackers.

Shattering a massive rift will consequently collapse thereby dominoing 'contamination of potable fresh water supply to population centers topside relying on natural underground aquafier fresh water systems'.

This situation involves multi-factoring equations few are capable of performing much-less comprehending.

Might want to discover what private contractors like EG&G and their favorite sub-contractors have been looking closer at ( undergrpund radar mapping by petrochemical entitoes ) in the area could turn up a further information support lead worthy of monitoring details from.

You all know the GovMint ain't gonna publicly release squat as to what's actually going on now so, use a few legal backdoors.

Don't forget to check surrounding states governor travel intineraries and whether they sent their families on something 'odd' like 'another vacation' after they just returned from a vacation.

Good work, people, and thanks for your input here!

I wonder if these bubbles are methane, or another gas of some sort. The sinkhole is very deep as well, so who knows what it is tapping into way below.

OP there is a cavern full of Butane (i hope i spelled it right) underneath the sinkhole.

Louisiana sinkhole deadly contaminants found

Breaking News. Sinkhole area oil and gas industry deadly contaminants found, further violating human rights in disaster area

As the Bayou Corne disastrous sinkhole grew Friday another 20 feet closer to Texas Brine’s failing storage cavern, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LA DEQ) water and air tests of the gas bubbles and sinkhole are showing cancer-causing and numerous other negative health impact contaminants, according to official records and an analysis released Tuesday.

Not only is it reported the sinkhole is deeper with dangerous gases all over nearby, but it's now SALTIER the deeper you go!!!

UPDATE AUGUST 22nd:

Sinkhole is saltier the deeper it gets. Is the whole area sinking into the Gulf!?

Air samples as well as sinkhole samples have been taken for health concerns.

Um Yeah...... the cavern is made from a SALT DOME! Of course the water could have salt in it! DUH! DUH! DUH!

I live in LA, less than 100 miles away. We are not worried about your paranoid theories.

If the New Madrid quake of 1895 did not split the country in half, then neither would a Madrid quake now. And FYI Madrid fault line begins hundreds of miles away from LA.

Yeah sure there is an emergency here. If you did a little research you would find that LA is made up of a lot of marshland and bayous that connect to the gulf. The LA marshes and land mass are eroding at something like a football field a day or more. So yeah it is very possible that the saltwater mixes with freshwater. Many of the marshes are brackish. So yeah LA has salt water under our land.

Stop with this insanity. Please. Not every disaster is actually DOOM!

LA is one of the largest chemical producing states because of the MS river and our natural resources.

Anyone that lives in LA knows that we live in chemical cancer alley.

This is nothing shocking to anyone that lives here. And I can pretty much assure that there are cancer causing chemicals in your area too.

How about pretty much everything has cancer causing chemicals in it. Everything.

if it blows it won't take a chunk of Louisiana off the map, but they did say it would be like 1800 kilotons. according to my estimates that would blow a nice big pothole 1/2 mile across and at 10 miles away still be causing moderate damage to buildings and 1st degree burns. I think the gases would be dangerous in that area but only in that area.

not much to worry about 15 miles away. inside 10 miles I'd run like hell.

There are some other locations like this in the US:

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

"Burning Springs is an unincorporated town in Wirt County, West Virginia, USA. It takes its name from the natural gas which bubbled up through the spring and would burn when lit.

In the early 19th century, wells were drilled at the springs to produce brine which was evaporated to produce salt. Some petroleum was produced along with the salt brine. By 1836, the salt wells were producing 50 to 100 barrels per year of oil that was sold as illuminating oil."

So, in Burning Springs the spring simply develops dancing flames over the water, which would be pretty cool. Sit around, pass the bong, remember Jon Lord. Maybe they should set it on fire just for the tourist attraction possibilities?

From another thread...

Here is another one.

You have to understand, this also is just a drop in the bucket compared to what is in those domes!!!!

The volume of Liquid explosive in those domes is almost unimaginable(spelling?)

//snip youtube link //
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1585188

A couple of items to note before I begin:

1) Who owns the radioactive material in the dome?

2) Why are other dome operators, owners, or companies whom have material stored in nearby domes NOT being named and identified?

3) Why was the Texas Brine "worst case" report accepted when it did nothing more than say "it" could not happen?

4) Why are other companies not being required to provide worst case reports?

5) Why are officials outright refusing to provide information naming the other companies with domes and/or what materials are in them?

Thread: HUGE Louisiana sinkhole! PART 2 (Page 13)

Good, you found the "scary" one from Murdoch, Illinois... A single railcar going BLEVE, and then another with iso-butane in it did later BLEVE later in the evening...
My quick copy and paste broke many of the links, but that is one video I definitely wanted included in my post.
Thank you for locating & correcting it.

Here it is again in the event anyone missed it in the prior posting:
Test to try to embed it, but not familiar with this forum software:

***That particular BLEVE blew the LFG rail car 3/4 of a mile from where it was burning, and LFG tank cars are *MUCH* heavier than regular rail cars.***

And that was only at most maybe 30,000 gals of propane, and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) scares the !@#$ out of me (almost) when compared to propane, butane, or similar LFG materials.
That is why there is such heated and protracted debated about where to put LNG (cooled to -270°F to liquify it), and when it gets out, a BLEVE with LNG would far exceed anything anyone might have seen in any of the other BLEVE videos, including the 1 at the rocket fuel plant in Nevada.

FLASHBACK from another incident involving a Salt Mine about 50-miles due west of the current incident (was not a Dome storing anything, but an actual working Salt Mine in the same area, and a little incident that happened when an engineer made a very slight mathematical error.

MANY from the area don't even know about this nor remember it.

Wikipedia:
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Lake Peigneur sinkhole disaster on November 20, 1980

Video from a police car of a BLEVE on Oct. 15, 2005 in TexArkana, AR, love his honest reaction that he broadcast on the radio at 1m 53s:

"Get your ass outta my way, we gettin the hell up outta here"...

Full video (WATCH & LISTEN CLOSE BEGINNING AT 1m 30s):

As far as H2S goes, it is in ALL natural gas and crude, and DEADLY poisonous. I've know multiple people that have died from H2S. Takes a VERY short time to do it's thing also... I used to be one whom they'd call in to "finish" a job after H2s put people down, either in the hospital or grave.

And for those of you debating H2S & S02, when H2S & S02 mix and react together, they form H2S04, Sulfuric acid ala' acid rain...

The PEPCON Disaster in Henderson, Nevada in 1998 involving ammonium perchlorate was not a LFG nor petroleum related BLEVE, but would give uninformed people an idea of how massive some of these industrial incidents can be.

BLEVE at Wikipedia: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Regarding the 4-BILLION cubic feet of Natural Gas stored in just 2 domes nearby the Texas Brine Dome (not even considering the CrossTex dome, nor any of the MANY other domes concentrated in the area and what is in them), ever heard of the "Piper Alpha Disaster" that happened in the North Sea?

Map of the Napoleonville Salt Dome area from the Louisiana Dept. of Natural Resources:

[link to dnr.louisiana.gov]

This map is of a rather small area, estimate 8,000' E-W, x 5,000' N-S...

Of particular note, you can see the CrossTex butane dome that is ~1,600-Ft due east of the "sinkhole" (REALLY, it is a COLLAPSING Salt Dome), and as you can see, will estimate that the Natural Gas domes containing 4-BILLION cubic feet of Natural Gas are just another ~600' or so further east-southeast from the CrossTex dome.

Just to the northeast of the CrossTex dome, there is ANOTHER CrossTex LPG storage dome. What is in that one?

Plus there are major pipelines all over in this area, a lot of them connecting other domes not far away and larger pipelines and oil & gas wells of which there are MANY.

Texas Brine may be fined $5K a day for sinkhole
The Associated Press
Published: Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 - 2:30 pm
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The company believed responsible for the massive sinkhole near Bayou Corne may have to pay a fine of up to $5,000 a day if they don't retroactively compensate evacuated residents.

Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh said Thursday Texas Brine Co. is required by the permit issued for a brine cavern they own in the Napoleonville salt dome to provide assistance to residents if a sinkhole develops.

The Houston-based company began providing a weekly housing check of $875 to evacuated locals last week.

Good thing they have so many refineries and chem plants in the area, and people with a LOT of experience dealing with matters like that, lest that could have DEFINITELY went BLEVE !

You didn't answer the question... How did they determine the depth of this sinkhole?

Why don't you go find it out if you need to know so badly. Search on google "how to measure depth of a sinkhole".

It is probably a similar way to checking the depth of a lake. Would you like me to go and research it all for you? Why are you asking? lol

Before sonar was invented they dropped a weight on the end of a rope and measured out the rope.
It still works.

What is really fucked up about this story, is that earlier this month they were saying there was butane stored in the salt dome. Now they are saying radioactive waste is tored there.

That's fucked up.

The NORM is so insignificant it is moot, what the *REAL* issue is, is the potential for a BLEVE of biblical proportions...
