Does anyone in that area know the factual current situation? If so, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being ignition is imminent), what would you rate this at it's current condition?

words like explosion and ignition are popping up quite a bit lately. i wonder what the chances of that happening are?

OP there is a cavern full of Butane (i hope i spelled it right) underneath the sinkhole.

I discount that because it would be too terrible...maybe my mind just does not want to go there. Even w/o an explosion this could be a terrible tragedy.

Not only is it reported the sinkhole is deeper with dangerous gases all over nearby, but it's now SALTIER the deeper you go!!!

Sinkhole is saltier the deeper it gets. Is the whole area sinking into the Gulf!?

Um Yeah...... the cavern is made from a SALT DOME! Of course the water could have salt in it! DUH! DUH! DUH!

I live in LA, less than 100 miles away. We are not worried about your paranoid theories.

If the New Madrid quake of 1895 did not split the country in half, then neither would a Madrid quake now. And FYI Madrid fault line begins hundreds of miles away from LA.

Yeah sure there is an emergency here. If you did a little research you would find that LA is made up of a lot of marshland and bayous that connect to the gulf. The LA marshes and land mass are eroding at something like a football field a day or more. So yeah it is very possible
that the saltwater mixes with freshwater. Many of the marshes are brackish. So yeah LA has salt water under our land.

Stop with this insanity. Please. Not every disaster is actually DOOM!

A couple of items to note before I begin:

1) Who owns the radioactive material in the dome?

2) Why are other dome operators, owners, or companies whom have material stored in nearby domes NOT being named and identified?


3) Why was the Texas Brine "worst case" report accepted when it did nothing more than say "it" could not happen?

4) Why are other companies not being required to provide worst case reports?

5) Why are officials outright refusing to provide information naming the other companies with domes and/or what materials are in them?

Good, you found the "scary" one from Murdoch, Illinois... A single railcar going BLEVE, and then another with iso-butane in it did later BLEVE later in the evening...

And that was only at most maybe 30,000 gals of propane, and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) scares the !@#$ out of me (almost) when compared to propane, butane, or similar LFG materials.
That is why there is such heated and protracted debated about where to put LNG (cooled to -270°F to liquify it), and when it gets out, a BLEVE with LNG would far exceed anything anyone might have seen in any of the other BLEVE videos, including the 1 at the rocket fuel plant in Nevada.


FLASHBACK from another incident involving a Salt Mine about 50-miles due west of the current incident (was not a Dome storing anything, but an actual working Salt Mine in the same area, and a little incident that happened when an engineer made a very slight mathematical error.

MANY from the area don't even know about this nor remember it.

As far as H2S goes, it is in ALL natural gas and crude, and DEADLY poisonous. I've know multiple people that have died from H2S. Takes a VERY short time to do it's thing also... I used to be one whom they'd call in to "finish" a job after H2s put people down, either in the hospital or grave.

And for those of you debating H2S & S02, when H2S & S02 mix and react together, they form H2S04, Sulfuric acid ala' acid rain...


The PEPCON Disaster in Henderson, Nevada in 1998 involving ammonium perchlorate was not a LFG nor petroleum related BLEVE, but would give uninformed people an idea of how massive some of these industrial incidents can be.

Regarding the 4-BILLION cubic feet of Natural Gas stored in just 2 domes nearby the Texas Brine Dome (not even considering the CrossTex dome, nor any of the MANY other domes concentrated in the area and what is in them), ever heard of the "Piper Alpha Disaster" that happened in the North Sea?

This map is of a rather small area, estimate 8,000' E-W, x 5,000' N-S...


Of particular note, you can see the CrossTex butane dome that is ~1,600-Ft due east of the "sinkhole" (REALLY, it is a COLLAPSING Salt Dome), and as you can see, will estimate that the Natural Gas domes containing 4-BILLION cubic feet of Natural Gas are just another ~600' or so further east-southeast from the CrossTex dome.

Just to the northeast of the CrossTex dome, there is ANOTHER CrossTex LPG storage dome. What is in that one?

Plus there are major pipelines all over in this area, a lot of them connecting other domes not far away and larger pipelines and oil & gas wells of which there are MANY.

Why don't you go find it out if you need to know so badly. Search on google "how to measure depth of a sinkhole".

It is probably a similar way to checking the depth of a lake. Would you like me to go and research it all for you? Why are you asking? lol

Before sonar was invented they dropped a weight on the end of a rope and measured out the rope.
It still works.

What is really fucked up about this story, is that earlier this month they were saying there was butane stored in the salt dome. Now they are saying radioactive waste is tored there.

That's fucked up.
