Was the movie Outbreak complete B.S.??? So, like most living things, it adapted. It traded off it's ability to kill for a longer lifespan. Now it takes a week to show symptoms, a week to kill (roughly), but it only kills about 50 percent of those who catch it. Before this outbreak had even gotten this serious I remember listening to a conspiracy radio broadcast that had a geneticist on discussing how mutations occur. He went over in great detail about it was hard for Ebola to mutate because killing people so quickly didn't give it a chance to sample all the DNA out there (people), but it was only a matter of time. NOW we have Ebola thriving in certain areas of the globe. It literally doesn't matter WHAT we do with our Ebola case in Texas. If we don't stop it from spreading it in Africa it WILL come here. It's a friggen game of Plague Inc only IRL. The US is not an island. Even if we close our borders and shut down all flights, animals could bring it over and we would all die. Maybe not all of, but at least 25% if it mutates and becomes airborne. Not "airborne" like it is now....but literally Ebola Flu. |

Was the movie Outbreak complete B.S.??? All you have to do to see how NOT DANGEROUS ebola is is to google image "ebola victim." You will find only three or four pictures of people who have had it. To complete the test, then google image "smallpox victim." You will see hundreds, probably thousands, of pictures of terrible suffering, because smallpox has actually had a big effect on the world, through the years. Judging from the pictures, ebola has not, despite being "discovered" in the seventies, had that large of an effect. A word to the wise is sufficient. |

Was the movie Outbreak complete B.S.??? You mean a science fiction movie about a fictional virus? They didn't even call it Ebola and there are dozens of hemorrhagic fevers to choose from. Also, haven't they established that this current outbreak has only a 60-65% mortality rate compared to like 95% in the past? Not to say Ebola isn't scary shit but everyone seems to be freaking out just because the media tells them to. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59245951 this is not correct. it was genetically engineered to have these new traits. the one test showed such a significant change in genome that it would be nearly impossible for it to have randomly mutated to that stage without having any intermediary stages. this is a forced situation to create a response so they can roll out their preplanned `solutions.` |

Chances are good that you will die if you get ebola, but chances are good you won't get it, it is hard to get. Like leprosy, which is actually hard to get, but scares people because of its effects You can ignore the consequences of your actions, but you cannot ignore the RESULTS of the consequences of your actions Ayn Rand |

Was the movie Outbreak complete B.S.??? Motaba was based on ebola. Ebola is named after the ebola river, the writer chose a river close to the ebola river called the Motaba river. The story was inspired by the book "the hot zone" about ebola. In the movie Motaba spread through the same means as ebola, but they claim Motaba has a 100% death rate which made me lol, that would make it less deadly then ebola as it would burn itself out sooner Last Edited by Joe42 on 10/05/2014 07:27 PM (aren't you glad this signature isn't rediculously long) |

Was the movie Outbreak complete B.S.??? You know, this is exactly what I have been wondering. They are playing it down like it's not a threat at all, and I remember as a kid when Ebola was first talked about and it was terrifying. They always said if it made it out of the jungle the world would be in trouble. Well, here it is is in major cities no less, and the play down is ridiculous. People have a right to know how bad it actually is, and it is a lot more contagious than they are letting on, otherwise how would entire villages be wiped out? I would take everything you hear from MSN and from the CDC with a grain of salt, what do YOU think the threat level is of this virus is? They won't tell anyone how bad it is until it's too late, and that's a fact. Trust your gut on this one. |

Movies aside....I learned about ebola when I was younger, back in school and college and various science books and shows. ...and it was always portrayed as same category as smallpox, but much nastier....shit that only samples of were kept in labs where you had to go like 3 levels below ground, through all kinds of security, wearing full spacesuit ppe hooked to an oxygen line just to get a petrie dish out of a safe to view under a microscope... ...... ....and if you dropped the sample the whole facility would go on lockdown. ....you go through life with that view of the thing and then see how they are treating the situation in Dallas and it makes absolutely no sense at all. |
