My bank keeps asking me what my occupation is when I do a transaction at the bank. Why the repeated question?

Simple - When the bank ask your occupation, simply tell them, "I'm a professional bank fraudster".

They generally don't ask me what my occupation is, but what annoys me is when I'm making a large withdrawal they always ask, what's this for? I just tell them it's none of their concern. I hate it when they try to make small talk too,I'm not looking to make a friend, just doing some banking.

Just be honest op.

That is strange, unless you are depositing large sums of money. If it's $25,000 or over, they will ask questions.

Find a local credit union. They will treat you much better.

Yeah today I did kind of a large withdrawal but they also asked me my occupation when I'm depositing checks!

I did call up the bank's main headquarters today and complained about it. The person I talked to said that it's not necessary to give your occupation in order to conduct a transaction at the bank and also thought it was strange.
It will be interesting to see if the branch that I go to changes their behavior and stops asking me my occupation in the future.

If they ask again, say ,”bank manager says I don’t have answer that and wonders why you are asking.”

I just had that call out done to me today.
I puffed out my chest when she stated "That is $37.53 in the account after check bouncing fees" now I hear this.

Could be anything, these days, with the Patriot Act in place, but it used to be if you deposited and/or withdrew a lot of cash.

10K or more, and they would be filing a CTR - Cash Transaction Report on you. A few questions pop up on their screen automatically. If you dont answer, they prob take their best guess and fill it out.

Think you're gonna be cute and start making large transactions that are under 10K. They can choose to do a STR on you -- Suspicious Transaction Report. Basically same data.

They wanna know what they money's from / for. An example would be drug-dealing. Think the report goes to the Fed. Not sure.

My bank wants income information on me. It might be so they can "market" bank products mote effectively.

Side note..I have heard of others getting just the bank debit card stolen.

Remember the stories years ago about banks being spied on from their own surveillance?

Some of the people never let other people touch their debit cards...
The info was still stolen somehow....meaning inside the bank.
