(OP) User ID: 77857043 United States 11/10/2019 08:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm retired now, but worked for a Nephrologist who owned dialysis units for 35 years. I worked in the office,so I'm not familiar with all the medical aspects. The dialysis unit should schedule a consultation for you & your son with a dietitian and a social worker. These services are included in the cost of the dialysis. The dietitian can help you with a diet plan and should have recipes, and the social worker will help with insurance, cost of meds (perhaps getting free meds from pharmaceutical companies that have programs for renal patients), and advice on any other programs available to help with hospital bills etc. Usually the dietitian and the social worker will see you once a month (it is required by law), but they are usually available whenever you request. If they determine that the kidney failure is not reversible (and I pray that your son's kidneys fully recover), he will be eligible for Medicare (due to ESRD), but it will not be effective for 3 months from the 1st date of dialysis. If he goes on CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) or home hemodialysis Medicare starts from the 1st day of training. Your son may qualify for Medicaid. Do not say that you are responsible for his bills. Say he is on his own. Use his income (or lack of income) to apply for assistance. This would cover his bills and may even be back dated to the date he was hospitalized. Get a disability laywer. God bless you and your family. Praying for complete healing for Dakota! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76867438 Thank you and yes he signed into the Hospital as himself under his insurance which is pretty basic coverage form his employer. We are not trying to scam the Doctors or Hospital from paying the bills, for God's sake they saved his life. . In fact he is determined to go back to work and pay them off himself. We will know in a few weeks what his final determination is. If its chronic and he has to have dialysis until he gets a kidney transplant or longer, then we will seek to help him get on SSI and medicare to cover the costs of his treatment, hes a laborer and will be pretty much unemployable if that does occur. Thank you again for this tidbit of knowledge, we are in a learning phase right now and any info is appreciated. "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling. It can't get wet, it's not the water they worry about its the waterborne bacteria that's a concern. So everyday chores like showering become a chore. My wife got him in the kitchen today and washed his hair in the sink, afterwards He was able to get into the bathtub and bathe. I had bleached the tub and all surroundings prior to him bathing. He said he feels like a new man. Lol. Smells like one too. So Wednesday is the big day for all of us .. Biopsy day. Dialysis tomorrow, Biopsy Wednesday, Dialysis Thursday, cardiologist Friday, Dialysis Saturday... never ending. "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling. Temporary’s are quickly replaced, trust me I know cause of my mother and me being her care giver. The long term port, is he getting one? I talked to mom today and checked on her status, they gave her a shot to boost her white cells count, her and I did not like that, we wanted it to happen naturally, she got slightly ill. Also checked her levels, still too high but she is still running circles around her boys lol God bless you and your family! |

(OP) User ID: 77857043 United States 11/13/2019 06:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wednesday update: It was an early start for my wife and Dakota today they left the house at 5:30 am to go to the hospital for Dakotas Kidney Biopsy. I stayed home to hold the fort down. The biopsy started around 8:30 and took around an hour to do. Then they brought him into a recovery room and they waited for him to be released. And that took until 4:15 pm. He had been sedated during the biopsy and his Hemoglobin level dropped so they held him up there until all was ok. They got back home around 5:30. Long day for them. Tomorrow he goes back to dialysis and then Friday he has an appointment back at the hospital, Biopsy results will be in and we find out where we go from here forward. We Thank all of you for your prayers and continued support of our family. "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling.
