Hello everyone. We are getting ready to go meet with the SSI Lawyer here shortly.

Yesterday the people at Fresenius conned Dakota into taking a Flu shot. They actually told him that unless he took it he would not be eligible for a Kidney transplant. We are furious !

This was about making money and nothing else. Flu shot is around $25 here. I'm waiting to see what the bill is going to be. They recently billed him $2700 for a Vitamin shot.

So I just wanted to express our Families gratitude for everyone Prayers and support.

I hate that he had to have a flu shot, however, I am not at all surprised. They will also mandate dental care if needed or disqualify for transplant. I know someone on the liver transplant list and they made her get a few teeth pulled.

Hang in there, hopefully all will be well. We can't even give recommendations on how to clear the vaccine or bump up things for his immunity because of all of the restrictions he has being on dialysis. Praying for a nice weekend for you all. I hope it went well with the lawyer. Please ignore the horrible Trolls. Not even a life threatening illness is reason enough to stand down. Disgusting.

The Lawyer was shocked to learn that Dakota was declined. Said he never heard a ESRD claim being denied.

So Monday he has Dakota going to SS and reapplying, then getting the Medicare form from the Health Dept, then getting his Medical records from MCG. On Wednesday we have another appoint with him at 1:00 pm. So starting today with dialysis it's going to be a very busy week.
 Quoting: BBQ BOY™

get an ssi lawyer to handle it. It will take about 3yrs though. just warning you. It will keep getting denied until you do. Trust me. Dont go to ss. it's just wasting your time.

And whatever he does, if he was working with full time benefits dont let him push you out. get the lawyer, he will recieve his benefits from, work and ss. That was my mistake.

How the hell do they justify $2700 for a vitamin shot?

There is no one on this planet that could convince me that price is fair...that is fucking highway robbery at its worst.

We get billed $101 -$113 per empty plastic syringe that they use each time at Dialysis. It's usually two per treatment sometimes three.

Today is 109 days since Dakota was first Hospitalized, I keep a running tab of the medical costs as the bills come in.

One Million two hundred and sixteen thousand dollars so far. And that's not a accurate number because we have not got the bills for the last seven Dialysis treatments and three Hospital appointments. A rough estimate of those costs would be around 60 to 70K.

I found this regarding ESRD Medicare eligibility. It looks like they probably turned your son down due to not having a 10 year work history, but he can qualify under you or your wife's work history (hopefully). Here is what is says and the link follows: In the case of children (persons under 21
and certain persons aged 22-25), a parent’s work history will qualify them for ESRD Medicare
coverage.
Note that 10 years of work history is not the only way to qualify. If the beneficiary does not have 10
years of work history, they still may qualify with fewer quarters of work. [link to www.ncoa.org (secure)]
God bless you and your family.

This was a Big Plus for us today at the Social Security office. Thank you A/C !!!

So Today at SS we filed an appeal to the previous denial at the request of the Attorney we hired.

Your not going to believe this one. Wait for it.

The woman ask why we were filing an appeal because our first claim had not been processed yet.

And there we sat with three letters of Denial of the first claim in our hands.

One hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

We got everything rounded up for Wednesdays second meeting with the SSI Attorney.

New SSI claim.
New Medicare claim
And a copy of Hospital records. Which the hospital charged us $45 for redface

Glad it helped! I can't believe they denied him the first time. I had never heard of the 10 year work history rule, and I worked at a dialysis clinic for 35 years! I don't know if this is new, or if we just didn't have anyone so young with ESRD. He should qualify for Medicaid as well as Medicare (unless they've changed the rules). You guys are doing a great job taking care of your son. He is blessed to have a loving family. Love and prayers to you, your family and especially Dakota!!

We finally have a day this week where we are not running all over the place. We managed to get all the Documents the Lawyer wanted and we met with him again on Wednesday, so now it's sit back and wait. Nothing has really changed since the last time I updated you all.

Although we get a little frustrated at times with the way things are progressing, we are all in good spirits.

We had a discussion the other day about how illegal immigrants manage to get Government assistance and benefits.
Dakota has been denied and the system has him jumping through hoops to prove who he is, as well as what's wrong with him. We wondered how Illigals got around this?

We got a call a from from Cardiovascular team the other day, they told him that since he didn't have insurance they would need to reschedule his Vein Mapping appointment on Jan. 22nd until he could provide them with Insurance information.

Well TSHTF during that phone call and once they were asked if they were denying our Son medical treatment, they told us to come on Jan 22nd as schedule and they would Bill him.

We have also had one Doctor turn Dakota over to a Collection agency for a $30 co-pay they call almost daily.

Anyway that's all I have for you today. We Thank you for your continued support of our Son and our Family.

Hey BBQ! Hang in there. I dealt with the medical system for 10 years, and they made me worse instead of better. Finally found an out of state doctor who was a real doctor, that figured out my back surgeries had caused diabetes. Also, there were several meds I took that were causing all kinds of problems!

But I was wondering why you can't get him insurance through the health care exchanges? If he has no income and can't work, he should be a good candidate.

Unbelievable! They want to reschedule a surgery that they screwed up the first time because they might not get paid. They shouldn't get paid anyway. If they had done their job correctly the first time, they wouldn't need to do it again. Good for you that you asked if they were denying him treatment. Keep up the good work.
