I am building a decentralized social media tool

Note to the mods: I'm not promoting this tool via this post. I don't want to compete with GLP. I simply want to discuss what I'm working on and its possibilities.

I have been thinking about and tinkering with all kinds of web technologies that might enable a truly decentralized social media platform ever since I first heard about people being "de-platformed" because of wrongthink several years ago.

Since that time, a few players have shown up who claim they are decentralized, but it's not true. They all rely on some central point of failure. Whether that be some cloud service like Amazon Web Services or Azure, or depend on a single domain name/DNS provider/CDN, like Cloudflare or some other webhost.... These approaches always showed the major flaw.

How can someone build a tool that is truly decentralized while still depending on big tech players?

The answer is simple. Take the middle man out entirely and go 100% decentralized with P2P. By that, I mean get rid of domain names. Get rid of hosting providers. Get rid of centrally managed storage.

How am I doing it? WebRTC and WebTorrent. Those are the main clues I'll give you. But I'm not going to give away all the secrets before I have a working model that I'm ready to release into the wild....

Did you think about your vulnerabilities? How you will guarantee security for P2P based platform. Are you thinking of using blockchain too?

This thread is total bullshit and Catfishing. I have spoken with many bots on many platforms. I know a bot when I see one. I remember talking with Tay and Microsoft pulled her in less than a day. That was all it took their AI to become racist.

Oh I forgot, in my model, your data is always 100% your own. It only lives on your computer. Unless someone screencaps it, or otherwise. But the point is no-one can censor or stop you from sharing it... as long as you're not doing something illegal, in which case they can swat you and take you to jail.

A downside might be anonymity. Although I could care less about it from a development perspective. But that is a good thing in a number of ways, because it might encourage individual responsibility (e.g. don't misuse the tool).

check out "Dragon Den" from Dragonchain. Goes live this week. Is pretty much exactly what you're describing, a couple hundred users already. It rocks.
