Southern Teacher's Don't have UNIONS . If a Union is involved those teachers cannot get fired easily ! No Unions Down South !

Even if schools don't "give" or assign a particular Chromebook, they have hundreds of them in schools. Almost every classroom has a cart. The kids have log-ins. The networks belong to the schools. Therefore, they can track site a kid has been on. There's always a bunch each year who get it for porn surfing or playing video games or watching videos when they are not supposed to. Kids and their parents sign an agreement for proper behavior on the net/hardware, so if they are using the school's internet to view porn or harass other kids, they are toast.

Legally it is quite simple or complex depending on if you want to obfuscate the end use / user of your data.

1.) The Catch All end user License Agreement and your consent.

You agree when suing certain software and hardware to allow GOOG (and 1000's of potential other "vendors") to share with third parties your data that they have on you.

I am a State actor and I fund or cause to be funded a private company, developer, think tank, University, foundation, NGO etc. I sponsor them or fund in whole or in part in exchange for them aggregating and or analysing the data that they as third parties get from GOOG and turn over the results to me. In some cases real time data.

3.) The FED (and any State Actor willing to pay) is offered your packed data from application developers, online websites, games, cable / TV / Internet Companies etc.

4.) It is also certain that by law / Act that Telcos, cable and fibre carriers etc. have a black box siphoning up every packet that's switched on demand or full time in real time.


I think the chromebook as hardware is a good value for many people.

If you get one please do yourself a favour and download Linux on a thumbnail, USB, or any bootable portable USB drive. You only need 2 gigs of space.

For new to Linux folks I suggest getting this OS image: [link to linuxmint.com (secure)]

Stick in the USB drive boot up and run your chromebook off the USB flash drive, or what I would so is install Linux using the whole chromebook disk and in doing so wipe out Chrome OS.


Note Chrome OS as found on Chrombookls is Linux under the Chrome OS GUI / Desktop interface. It is a jailed system that locks you out of many core processes and those include constant and continual cron jobs that trigger at intervals your book to update googles servers. Key loggers, voice / microphone controls, camera, disk and network adaptor access, app usage and location data. It is very much like it's code cousin The Android OS.

In any event Linux will run on the books and give you full control over how all the components of your chromebook work.

chromebooks security systems remain intact running linux?

FINALLY `~ SOMEONE TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT HAWAII !!!

No you either run a live Linux session off a usb flash drive or you wipe Chrome OS off the internal ssd drive and replace it with an open Linux kernel and desktop.

running a live Linux session will not alter anything on the Chromebooks hard drive and the OS on there. It is just sitting there as you are running your OS code from an attached USB drive.

While in a live USB linux session you can choose to run a full bl;own desktop session or you can choose to install linux over top of the hard drive and the chrome os installed at the factory. It can delete and create new partitions, wipe / over write the disk just as it is and format it so it is just a blank hardrive, or you can do all the above and permanently write the new Linux OS where Chrome OS once called home.



So you boot the usb drive and use it as you find it.

If you wipe the internal hard drive you can use it as storage space but you will not have a chrome os to boot your chromebook from, So you must use a USB. It is like a hardware key to your chromebook.

You can encrypted the internal hard drive so if any one tries to scoop up your book with out the usb drive key drive to boot and decrypt the data that may be stored inside. You pass word protect the boot sequence on the key so evenm if they scoop up the book key inserted they have to get pass the password lock at boot.

In essence book it is a brick for most people, even if a Linux hack booted your book from their on key the worst they could do is wipe the disk clean. The data and the device is lost but not your privacy or digital security.


So A live usb Linux session will run on Chromebooks ./, by passing chrome os but not changing anything.

You can wipe the hard drive and have a blank slate using only usb drives to boot your book from here on in, never using or changing the internal hard drive or use it as internal storage only, or..

You boot a live session and choose to wipe and over write Chrome OS with Linux. You will loose access to chrome apps store etc. In truth if you really need to run a chrome os app via the installer you can emulate it on your book with little performance hits.

It’s time for a massive culling.
