No she isn't. I've known Stephanie Sawyer Clayton since grade school. She did make an abrupt change to Democrat, after being elected as a Republican a couple years back. That pissed off a lot of people. She is a good person though.

The law has something going on at the North Ohio Railroad Overpass in Salina around 3. Other than that it's pretty quiet.

Anymore sauce on this? Some are speculating that the power outage in Bethel, Ohio (where the red lights flashing in the sky were seen) was some sort of failed EMP attack. It was not the any transformer explosions etc. so far no answers coming out of there.

Looks like it may be about foreign attempts to hijack government computers to obtain information.

They don't suddenly bus lawmakers off-site without any aides present to meet with DHS to just talk about cybersecurity tips. That's what they were told to say.

Possibly going to a secure location like a SCIF. They didnt want people calling or emailing about it.

I'm glad you brought up SubTropolis since it's an amazing, yet little-known facility that was actually built by KC-Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt.

That place is massive and really defines description since it's still growing, even today with it's 500,000 square feet of active space. The USPS even uses it as their only storage facility for all commemmorative stamps, right long with major global corporations who house their most valuable documents there.

In 2015, Kansas passed S.B. 45 into law, authorizing anyone 21 years of age and older to carry a concealed firearm on their person without a license or permit. Individuals under 21 years of age may only do so when on their own land, abode, or fixed place of business.

You should let your range and LEO know to search SB 45 conceal carry and have them learn the new law before they get themselves sued.

In fairness, while it isn't required it is heavily recommended to have your CC permit so as to help with the paperwork should you be involved in an incident. It is also useful to take the classes in general if you are someone who didn't grow up around firearms and don't know much about their upkeep, safety, and use. In rural parts around me, the CC permit is largely seen as a joke, as many would just open carry.

If I hear someone say they were anti-gun and now they have changed their minds (has happened a few times in the last few years from people who've moved out here), I encourage them to go through the CC permit process so they get the training they need. Second Amendment doesn't demand it, but I sure as heck would like them to know which end of the gun the bullets come out of. Good intentions don't keep a gun from going off in your face if you're doing it wrong.

Re: Kansas Lawmakers make unexpected trip for DHS security briefing
in the last year they have moved several government (Washington) offices to Kansas. I heard this via NPR 2 months ago.
 Quoting: miabelieves

One of the BIGGEST secrets they pulled off is the relocation of the former Plum Island facilities to just outside Manhattan KS.

Plum Island was where the U.S. researched animal diseases, but it's labs are better known as hosting research in biological warfare from the 60's-90's. In the film SILENCE OF THE LAMBS it's also where the FBI offered to relocate Hannibal Lecter if he cut them a deal!

The new, sprawling Kansas compound -which is called the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility [the NBAF]- is under the direct control of the DHS and construction of two main labs has already been completed... very quietly and under the radar. The facility houses a Bio-Level 3 lab which is just one step below the most secure there is. That cosntruction was kept so secret that many Kansans have no idea it's even there.

Since the DHS called the secret meetings of those KS lawmakers, I'm wondering if perhaps the NBAF was discussed right along with cyber-security as has been reported.
 Quoting: GSB/LTD

If it's secret then it's a terribly kept one. It's literally within eyeshot of Snyder Stadium. You probably see it on a broadcast of their football games. There are also reports on it in the paper quarterly and to public meetings.

Not to say there isn't some shenanigans going on there, but just saw that and had to laugh.

Did pick up the local Topeka Capital Journal when I was out and it had a couple of nuggets.

-The meeting was requested by the Governor, organized by the Attorney General, and given by the State National Guard Head. "Understanding the nature of these issues will increase awareness and prevent potential security missteps."

-The meetings lasted two hours each. WHile they did cover cybersecurity one legislator said it was a broad range of topics they went over.

-The Democrats quoted said it was very dull and one said "90% of it could have been covered in an Email."

-Only the Republican House Speaker was quoted and he said it was something he'd been requested of several times by the AG/Governor and in the interest of security went ahead with it.

The only thing I can think of is that Kansas has, for whatever reason, been a significant target for foreign espionage/sabotage and perhaps this has even infiltrated government ranks? No mention of the Governor being involved in these discussions....

Yeah it was a laughable feather but it played into the President of K-State's 2025 plan to have K-State be a major research university. Not sure if Richard Meyer has continued that plan or foo foo'd it.

Though I always thought he was an interesting choice to take the helm after Schulz went west... Meyer being a former Chairman Joint Chief and all.

The GDP boost always seemed anemic or overblown in any figures I saw. I just figured the boost would come from the increase in support infrastructure as companies move resources here to take advantage of the facility.

Lawmakers at the Kansas Statehouse have cancelled all Tuesday afternoon meetings for a last minute security briefing from the Department of Homeland Security.

According to sources, speaker Ron Ryckman has cancelled all afternoon committee meetings so lawmakers can load a bus and be shuttled to Forbes Field inside the 190th Air Refueling Wing’s portion of the airfield.

Of course the camps were hiring these new agents then. We were all on edge.

I concur. I'm 66 and live in Andover. In Kansas you can open carry or conceal carry without a permit, (if you so wish )when and where you want, except within 500ft of a school and or, in or on federal buildings or federal property. Conceal permits are issued if you want one but are NOT REQUIRED. The benefit of having a Kansas conceal permits are crossing reciprocating lines and when buy the second firearm a background check is NOT REQUIRED.

The facility at K State, that is across the street from the school of veterinary med. is the same pos that was on "Plumb Island!" WTH did they send such a lethal thing to the very center of the country? I suppose if it catches a missile the loss of life around here would be acceptable!!!!!
This Plumb Island moving here, was the brain child of Sen Pat Roberts ... who was instrumental in getting us into the PPT mess. He should have been gone years before he was. So ... he says the lab will bring jobs to Kansas.
Many of us didn't buy that crap. I am wondering who ordered Plumb Island to the heart of the food production?

Separate briefings so they can tell which side any leaks are from. Democrats and Republicans were given slightly different information, so when something is leaked, they know which bus it came from.
