How can one believe that article, when they make such a basic mistake as to tell folk where in relation to Pinatubo the Taal volcanoe is.
Pinatubo is not south of Taal, but north of it. Infact, Manila is north of the Taal Volcanoe and Pinatubo is north of Manila.
They should learn to look on a map and get their facts straight. It ain't much to ask.

I have been volunteering with the PDRRMO/NDRRMC (local and national disaster response teams) helping to setup their mobile command centers.

Mt. Taal is not even close to the destructive power of Mt. Pinatubo that erupted in 1990. When Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, it was rated as a VEI-6 eruption. This is over 10x the destructive power of the VEI-5 eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.

Mt. Taal could only produce at most a VEI-3 eruption. It's destructive potential is due to it's proximity to Metro Manila. It's about 30 mi (52 km) south of Metro Manila. Depending upon the wind speed and direction, it's possible to cover much of Metro Manila with volcanic ash.
