what? you mean rich people have gotten even richer under pres chumps term? the poor have gotten poorer under pres chumps term? cant be true, he said he was gonna drain the swamp n get rid of all those lobbyists n put more money in the average joes pocket. just saw an article talking about how all of his tax plans have put more billions in the big bankers pockets. wait til they start raising min wage this year and watch how prices on utilities, gas, groceries etc.. skyrocket even more, along with huge layoffs, widening the gap between poor and rich.

Re: Rich getting richer, while poor getting poorer, report says
Part of the reason is poor vs. not poor ways.

Poor people often stay poor because they never learned long term planning. My poor relatives plan for what booze they will drink each weekend. I am planning out for my future grandchildren. IOW, the poor don't plan forward, the not poor plan generations forward.

Yes, I know there are outliers in both categories. I am speaking in very general terms.

How did I become not poor? When growing up, a friends parents taught me the value of planning & deferred gratification, AND, I was smart/wise enough to listen & learn.
 Quoting: Lady Jayne Smith

^ exactly.

Add to that many people are also poor because they are terrible with money. Poor money management.

add to that some countries are working on removing the petrodollar

whole world basically depends of it

fter the collapse of the Bretton Woods gold standard in the early 1970s, the United States struck a deal with Saudi Arabia to standardize oil prices in dollar terms. Through this deal, the petrodollar system was born, along with a shift away from pegged exchanged rates and gold-backed currencies to non-backed, floating rate regimes.

The petrodollar system elevated the U.S. dollar to the world's reserve currency and, through this status, the United States enjoys persistent trade deficits and is a global economic hegemony. The petrodollar system also provides U.S. financial markets with a source of liquidity and foreign capital inflows through petrodollar "recycling." However, a full explanation of the effects of petrodollars on the U.S. dollar requires a brief synopsis of the history of the petrodollar.

History of the Petrodollar
Faced with mounting inflation, debt from the Vietnam War, extravagant domestic spending habits, and a persistent balance of payments deficit, the Nixon administration decided in Aug. 1971 to suddenly (and shockingly) end the convertibility of U.S. dollars into gold. In the wake of this “Nixon Shock,” the world saw the end of the gold era and a free fall of the U.S. dollar amidst soaring inflation.

It's true, all the money is flowing to the rich. The middle class are slowly becoming extinct.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77994583

No actually money flows to the people that are well prepared mentally ahead of time and work hard with very long hours of the day 6 to 7 days a week.

Business owners do that you know.
Doesn't matter if it's a mom and pop grocery store or a billionaire real estate developer. They bot work hard long hours every day and constantly seeking to learn and improve their knowledge of their chosen career path.

Re: Rich getting richer, while poor getting poorer, report says
IMO, this is mostly due to the increasing corporatization of the economy. A trend which has vastly accelerated over the last 10 years thanks to super low interest rates which make it easy and inexpensive for corporations to borrow and buy out private companies.

Only way for most people to get a piece of that pie is by investing in stocks and bonds. Otherwise you're just gonna get left behind. Wish it weren't so, but it is and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77844123

Multinational Corporations are the enemy of today's world.
They jump from country to country with not a care in the world for the country.

They buy off the politicians, they pass the costs to everyone else.

All countries need to stand together and ban any products not made in the country. These consumers then will have nowhere to run to.

The day I will throw a party is when the USA goes back on the Gold & Silver standard backing of our paper currency.
That will make all our goods and services rediculiosly cheap and the rest of the world will cry a ocean of tears because their extremely inflated currency will not even be able to buy our American high quality products. We already done went back energy independent and once our currency gets back to what Americans Founders set up as, the USA will in fact be the most powerful nation on the face of the planet. Not just on paper but in real literal economic output.

Use to be back when I was a child that everything Americans had in their home and their driveway was all 100% American made!

It's because there are too many opportunities for growth, maybe growth should be banned and everyone will be equally poor just like it was back in the day in the communist block. Still remember staying Lin line for 2 hours to buy a bread, but hey everyone was equal!

No, they were poor because the workers were not allowed to organize for better pay. Unions are banned in Communist Countries.

Re: Rich getting richer, while poor getting poorer, report says
in 2012 the top 10% earners took home more than 50% of all income

that's the highest % in last 100 years

By 2015, America’s top 10% already averaged more than nine times as much income as the bottom 90%. And Americans in the top 1% averaged over 40 times more income than the bottom 90%. The chart below shows a breakdown of average household incomes ranging from the bottom 90% to the top .1%.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20038442

To get to the top 10% you only need to make $120k, that's a husband and wife filing jointly with modest middle class jobs.

See how they slide that shit down? It used to be let's kill the 1%, now it's the 10%.

Poor people won't make more money until we start building things in America again, that's how dumb people get a good income.

The people in the bottom 25% of income are never going to be doctors and lawyers, for them it's either work on an assembly line for good money or work at Dunkin Donuts serving coffee to people with jobs that actually accomplish something.

Regulations are making those people poor, make us competitive to manufacture shit and the money will come.

You don't even need to roll back environmental regulations, just get rid of the red tape. People aren't building factories here because it takes 5 years to make sure there aren't any tree frogs in the area before they can get a permit... fuck the tree frogs I'm on team people.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

They can get rid of regulations and lower pay but will never be able to compete with Communist Labor.

You can pick any year in our countries history, and the workers under Capitalism always make more than labor under Communism where workers have no rights and unions are banned.

It seems the ultra rich corporations could give a few more crumbs and pay people a decent wage.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77994583

Even more so when some of those corporations are similar to Amazon/Washington Post run by liberal Jeff Bezos and Facebook of liberal Mark Zuckerberg. Not to mention all the other Limousine Liberals of Silicon Valley and high tech. Or the Gillettes and Nikes of America.

Notice how all that left-leaning bias in the San Francisco Bay Area - the belly of the liberal beast - hasn't eliminated the increasing disparity and dysfunction of California, including that of the homeless, drop-outs and drug users.

Comedienne Ricky Gervais poking fun at such liberals a few weeks ago on an Hollywood awards show was humorous because jokes, in order to be good, have to grounded in some reality.

Rich or poor, leftwing or rightwing, a stable society depends on a large number of its people being honest, logical and ethical. Honesty, logic and ethics are treated like nuisances by way more of the left than the right.

In bad Hollywood fiction, the Bills, Hillary, Joes and Baracks of the system are portrayed as mean, greedy, tricky rightwingers. In reality, such people are almost always of the left, not right.

There are no conservative versions of Bill/Hillary Clinton. Or Joe Biden/Barack Obama. Or conservative versions of their sycophants and enablers.

At most, the John McCains of society come closer to being rightwing variations of the Clintons, etc. But a miss is as good as a mile.
