Re: Mechanic ON Duty! Ask me a question!
Why does the transmission temperature of my 2017 Ram 1500 with an 8 speed transmission, get to 133 C (270 F) when travelling at a constant 110 kph (70 mph).

The dealer said that this was in the normal operating range!!!!!

I have the same transmission and truck. it no way runs that hot. I think it operates at 210f . without towing .

There is a thermostatic valve in the cooler lines. Looks like a block of aluminum. The valve is in bypass until around 180f to allow the transmission to warm up, then it usually operates 190-210, same as engine temp. These valves are known to stick in bypass which can lead to elevated temps. The valve typically comes with the lines but can be swapped without removing the lines.

Condensation in car during winter, how do I solve it. This problem started last year before then I never had this problem. I purchased one of those dehumidifier bags you recharge in the microwave but it didn't do nothing.

02 Grand Marquis. Misfiring at various rpms. OBD2 says cylinder8 but also started throwing codes for every cylinder. Causing temperature icon to light as engine dies. But engine will start right up and idle perfectly. Only does this under load.

Suspecting a coil pack going out causing computer to go nuts.

Any other ideas? I have a set of 8 coils coming but would be nice to know of any other possible culprits.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77457727

I had this same car and the same problem and it was the intake manifold leaking coolant into the spark plug recesses. The coolant shorts the coil to ground and causes an intermittent or sometimes continuous misfire. However, since you are having misfires on all cylinders it's going to be a fuel delivery problem, pump, filter; something

I did know I had a small trans fluid leak and took care to keep it full. There's my problem yeah me.

So what’s the worst case scenario when a Honda 1.5 turbo crankcase overfills from gas dilution?

I had someone pressuring me heavy to buy one recently and I’m glad I took a pass.

Wiped bearings. Driver usage plays a large role. My driving style and commute would never allow this condition to occur. Someone driving in town with no highway is a lot more likely to have these problems.

I've got a mig gun with a custom tip that kicks the wire out at a 45 degree bend as it leaves the nozzle. It's great for close clearance top-of-pipe welding.

I'm looking for a good suspension setup for a 1976 Funco SS1 with VW IRS and Link pin front beam, stock width. The shocks have to be 2" body with no coilovers and no bypass shocks for the vintage racing class.
Thank you.

Almost every picture I've seen of the Funcos have coil overs. The rear on some cars had up to 4 shocks per wheel!

That's going to be a tough one. There's quite a few posts about the Funcos over on the Samba. Drag shocks can be very configurable if you're looking for heavy rates in one direction.

Do they allow non sealed body shocks?

Could be, but a clutch failure is rarely spontaneous. Usually let's you know with some slipping. A solenoid will flat just quit and you end up missing gears. He'll know when he drops the pan. If the fluid is realitively clean it's a solenoid. If the fluid is burnt with a layer of material it's rebuild time.

Next time in the morning try putting the shifter in neutral and see if it starts. Parking brake on and foot on the brake of course.

The transmission range sensor allows starting in park and neutral. Sometimes the contacts stick or wear out. If it starts ok in neutral but not park the range switch is going bad.

The engine mount may be bad or out of position. It has to be taken loose to do water pump.

Thanks, I'll check out drag shocks. It doesn't say anything about non-sealed body shocks. Is external reservoir the same as bypass shocks?

From the NORRA rules:
9.1 Legend BuggiesThe spirit of this category is to provide a home for non-production based Buggies that raced in the 1976-1982 era.
Engines can only be VW Type 1 but can be built to any size.
Transaxles must be VW but can be IRS (091, 002, or swinger). The maximum wheelbase is 110”, measured at ride height. Front suspension must be beam of any width but arms can be no longer than 2.5” longer than stock. Rear suspension can be no greater than 3x3 over stock. The maximum shock diameter is 2” (OD). No coilovers. No bypass shocks (internal or external). The maximum tire diameter is 33”. Bugs are allowed in this class if they do not meet the Legend bug rules but do meet the Legend buggy rules.
